Lancs v Notts, Day Two abandoned

Lancs v Notts, Day Two abandoned

Please click your 'refresh' button for updates to this page.

Despite the best efforts of the groundstaff rain has been the deciding factor with no play possible on the second day of our Vitality County Championship match with Nottinghamshire.

The nearest we got to any action was at 12.30pm with the umpires and players ready to step on to the pitch when it rained.

Otherwise it was a day of watching the groundstaff take the covers off and on until it became impossible to get the ground ready in time for any play.

In the event more rain continued to fall after the abandonment, so we will return tomorrow and hope for better.

DAY 2 TIMELINE

4.05pm
The rain has had the final say and play has been abandoned for today I'm afraid.

3.20pm
Just as the umpires were inspecting conditions more rain forced the covers back on and we are watching it rain once more.

2.50pm
Better news with the rain having stopped and the groundstaff starting their mopping up operations once again.

Tea will be taken at 3.10pm with a further inspection during the tea interval.

2.00pm
There has been no let up with rain continuing to fall since 12.30pm and the covers look like they will remain in place for some time.

1.20pm
Lunch is over but the rain continues to fall.

12.30pm, LUNCH Day 2
While it continues to rain, lunch has now been taken.

12.25pm
Right on cue it has started to rain once more, just as we were about to start. The covers are back on.

12.15pm
A bit of drizzle a few minutes ago has now pushed the start back to 12.30pm with 80 overs to be bowled.

11.55am
Good news at last! Play will start at 12.15pm with 84 overs to be bowled.

Lunch will now be at 1.30pm with tea at 4.10pm.

11.45am
After further showers the rain has relented once again and the groundstaff are taking the covers off for the third time today already.

11.00am
More rain has arrived to put back a possible start.

The groundstaff, who were in the process of mowing the wicket, are hurriedly returning the covers to the square.

10.40am
Another short shower saw the covers put back on, but they are now being removed once more now the weather has cleared.

It means we will have a delayed start, but hopefully not by too much.

10.00am
Thankfullythat earlier band of rain has passed on and the groundstaff have just started removing the covers.

Once the covers have been removed the umpires will make an inspection.

9.30am
It is not a particularly good morning at Southport & Birkdale C.C. where we currently have rain falling steadily.

Once the rain relents we will update this page.

Hopefully we will get some play later when Lancashire will resume their first innings on 344 for eight with Keaton Jennings on 183 and Nathan Lyon on 8.

James Anderson was the only one of the 22 players in this match not to set a foot on the pitch during the first day. Hopefully we will see Jimmy in action later today.
