Members' Update - Annual General Meeting

Members' Update - Annual General Meeting

Following on from the Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday, the Club wanted to provide an update to Members on a number of matters that were confirmed throughout the meeting.

Firstly, and importantly, we wanted to thank all 357 Members that attended the AGM. This was one of the most engaged meetings the Club has hosted for many years. Over 50 Members were also watching via Zoom.

In total, 1,194 votes were made throughout the process, both online and in person at the AGM.

The following information gives an overview of the main outcomes from the meeting. A more detailed account of the actions will be incorporated in the minutes which will be sent to Members in due course.

  • Dame Sarah Storey was elected as the new President of Lancashire Cricket, succeeding Sir Howard Bernstein after ten years in the position.
  • Andy Anson, James Sheridan and John Abrahams were all re-elected on to the Board.
  • Bobby Cross and Carole Hodges were elected Vice-Presidents of the Club.
  • Jo Dibben, Kate Crane, Simon Reynolds and Mark Orr were elected to the Members’ Representative Group.
  • Regarding the rule changes:
    • 11a on electronic voting was passed.
    • 11b on Board composition was passed.
    • 11c on cosmetic changes was passed.
  • Of the Member Resolutions:
    • 12a was successful after a 55% majority, decided via a poll.
    • 12b was defeated. The Club is steadfast on its view that Standard Members have as much right to vote as any other membership category. Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do and to exclude voting rights from Standard Members would be wrong.
    • 12c was withdrawn.

Regarding 12a, the Board acknowledges the reprimand given by Members and apologises once again for not consulting with Members over this year’s membership categories before the packs were sent out. This has already been noted and will be discussed at the next Board meeting. In addition to this, there will now be a standing agenda item at each Board meeting to track progress against any AGM or Member Forum commitments made to Members.

We encourage as many Members as possible to attend Sunday’s Members’ Forum that is taking place at 10.30am in the Point, where a discussion will take place regarding voting rights, membership categories and benefits, following comprehensive research undertaken with 1,136 Members at the end of last season.

An additional Members’ Forum will be scheduled at Emirates Old Trafford ahead of Lancashire Lightning’s Vitality Blast fixture against Worcestershire Rapids on Sunday 7 July for those Members who can’t attend on Sunday as per the request at the AGM. More information on this will follow in due course.

It was also confirmed last night - via a rule change - that the Board will increase to ten (including President and Treasurer) at next year’s AGM. The Club has committed to consulting with Members regarding the Board’s skills requirements, prior to launching the advert for the new role. This will be included on the agenda at the Members’ Forum on Friday 8 November.

For those Members that submitted questions via text message during the AGM, we apologise that we did not have time to answer your questions. We will provide answers to those questions directly, as we did to questions submitted by email in advance of the meeting.

Thank you again for your on-going support of Lancashire Cricket. We look forward to seeing many Members at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for another T20 double header and thank you once again for the amazing AGM engagement.
