Player Profile

Lancashire have re-signed West Indian fast bowler Anderson Phillip on an overseas deal for the majority of this summer’s Rothesay County Championship campaign after an impressive short-term spell with the county in 2024.

New-ball seamer Phillip claimed 15 wickets in the final three Championship matches of last season, including nine in the draw against Worcestershire at New Road.

The Trinidadian was subsequently offered a deal which covers the first 11 Championship matches of 2025 plus the option of playing in the Vitality Blast subject to selection.

Phillip, 28-years-old, played seven times for the West Indies in 2021 and 2022.

He played a Test Match apiece at home to Bangladesh and away to Australia added to five One-Day Internationals. He claimed three wickets in those Tests and hit a best of 43 down the order against the Aussies at Adelaide.

He did actually spend quite a bit of time at Emirates Old Trafford during the Covid pandemic - the 2020 summer - when he was a travelling reserve for the West Indies squad who played England in a behind-closed-doors Test series.

And he toured Pakistan with the Test squad in January 2025, though he didn’t make the final XI for any of the three matches in a 1-1 drawn series.

Phillip further proved his capabilities with the bat thanks to scores of 41 and 30 in his first season at Emirates Old Trafford.

But it is with the ball where the Red Rose will need Phillip to shine once more as they chase promotion back to Division One.

At time of writing, he has taken 129 wickets in 38 first-class matches with seven hauls of five wickets or more, including a best of 6-19.

He debuted for Trinidad and Tobago in first-class cricket in early 2017, and they are currently chasing success in the West Indies four-day Championship.

Lancashire’s management were really impressed by Phillip’s skill and attitude in 2024, and the man himself loved his time wearing the Red Rose.

He said: “The standard of first-class cricket in England is high and as close as you can get to playing Test cricket. I really enjoyed my spell with Lancashire at the end of last season, and I am excited by the opportunity to return for the 2025 season.”

Phillip played age-group cricket in the Trinidad and Tobago system and has also played for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League T20 competition.
