Player Profile
In 28-time Australian limited overs international Ashton Turner, Lancashire have recruited a winner as one of their overseas players for 2025.
Turner has won all there is to win in Australian domestic cricket with both Western Australia and Perth Scorchers.
An experienced middle order batter and a handy off-spinner, Turner - 32-years-old - will represent the Red Rose county for the duration of this summer’s Vitality Blast group stage and will also be available to play in the Rothesay County Championship during that period.
Perth-born Turner has played his part in the Scorchers’ five Big Bash triumphs, captaining the last two of those in 2021/22 and 2022/23.
He has also been part of a golden period for WA. Since he made his senior debut for his home state in early 2013, they have won three four-day Sheffield Shield titles and six 50-over crowns.
Turner has played for Durham in both the Blast and the Championship across the last three seasons, captaining them in the 2022 summer.
He has played overseas short-form cricket all around the world; at the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan and Lucknow, in South Africa for Pretoria and in the Hundred for the Manchester Originals in 2022 and 2023.
A former Australia Under 19, Turner is no stranger to Lancashire life having played one season of league cricket for Todmorden in 2016.
As aforementioned, Turner played 28 times for Australia - in ODI and T20I cricket - between 2017 and 2023, with bests of 84 not out in the former and 2-12 in the latter.
Turner’s main suit is his batting, and he’s scored six career centuries, five of them in first-class cricket and one of them in List A. He also has a T20 best of 84 not out. The right-hander has a first-class best of 128 to his name.
He is known best for his calmness under pressure and his ability to finish games off.
Turner, who has played 214 T20 games at time of writing, has deceptive power. That ODI best of 84 not out, for example, came off just 43 balls against India at Mohali in March of 2019.
The Aussies were chasing 359, and they had work to do at 229-4 in the 37th over when Turner strode to the crease. But he crashed five fours and six sixes to get them over the line with 13 balls to spare and four wickets in hand.
