Mitchell Stanley has arrived at Lancashire on a one-year contract from Worcestershire, the fast bowler described as an “exciting and raw talent”.
That was the view of Mark Chilton, the county’s director of cricket performance, when the signing was announced last September.
New head coach Dale Benkenstein also spoke enthusiastically about the Shropshire-born seamer shortly after he arrived at Emirates Old Trafford.
Stanley will turn 23 on the eve of the 2024 season.
He has only played 10 T20 and Hundred games for Worcestershire and the Manchester Originals, the latter with whom he has been for the last two campaigns.
A bowler with serious pace, he is yet to debut in either List A or first-class cricket and has a T20 best of 2-24 to his name.
Stanley spent two seasons at New Road in 2022 and 2023 having joined Worcestershire from National Counties cricket with his home side, Shropshire.
Before signing with the Pears, he played in their age-groups and second team.
He also played one game for Delhi Bulls in the 2022 version of the Abu Dhabi T10 competition, claiming an impressive 2-16 from two overs in a win over Chennai Braves.
Stanley has a best of 4-18 from three overs to his name in a second-team T20 win for Worcestershire over Gloucestershire in late 2019, contributing to him getting a full-time deal with the Midlanders.
