Phoebe Graham is a good judge, isn’t she!
After a couple of trophy challenges with the Northern Diamonds across the first two years of regional cricket, she moved over to the right side of the Pennines and took up a contract with Lancashire Thunder ahead of 2022.
In 2025, the fast bowler will embark upon her fourth summer at Emirates Old Trafford, a place she simply adores.
Graham was part of the Diamonds team which reached the final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in 2020 and 2021. She also played four times in the Charlotte Edwards Cup in the latter year but did not play in their final defeat to South East Stars at the Ageas Bowl.
When the aggressive new ball seamer initially took up contract at Headingley, she gave up her full-time job as a Marketing Lead at Sky Television.
Graham is still heavily involved in the media, be it through commentary and summarising work with BBC Radio or LancsTV.
Now aged 33, Graham has played senior county cricket for five counties, including home team Yorkshire and most recently Lancashire. She has also played for Nottinghamshire, Devon and Berkshire.
She helped Lancashire win the regionalised final of the County T20 Cup in 2022, the Red Rose beating Yorkshire in the final at Northern near Liverpool.
Graham came up through the Yorkshire age-groups from Under 13s and has gone on to play in the Hundred for the Northern Superchargers and the Manchester Originals.
She comes from a cricket mad family, with her late father Peter a prolific Minor Counties seamer for Northumberland.
Phoebe made her senior county debut for Nottinghamshire in 2010 and also played for the White Rose county that summer.
She once took 7-8 playing women’s league cricket in Yorkshire for the Ben Rhydding team.
In all List A and T20 cricket, she has taken 109 wickets from 148 appearances for all teams. She went beyond the 100-wicket mark whilst in Red Rose colours during 2024.
Unfortunately, 2023 proved a frustrating season for Graham, who struggled to break into Thunder’s team. She did not play at all in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and went on loan to Western Storm in July, playing four RHFT games.
She returned to Thunder and finished off the season in the 50-over side and then featured more regularly in 2024, claiming a best of 3-16 from four overs in a T20 win over Central Sparks at Emirates Old Trafford in May. One of her wickets was new Lancashire fast-bowling colleague Grace Potts.
Graham is a tall bowler with good pace and a useful lower order batter.
In the winter of 2022/23, she had an encouraging spell playing for the Northern Brave in New Zealand’s Super Smash T20 competition either side of Christmas.
In a struggling side - the Brave only won one match - she claimed seven wickets in eight appearances, including a best of 3-11.
Having challenged for regional silverware, she will now bid to do the same in the new era of county cricket in the coming seasons.
