Lancashire Women stun Somerset
Lancashire Cricket Women produced a stunning bowling performance to dismiss Somerset for just 60 inside 20 overs and complete a 104-run victory at Bamford Fieldhouse CC.
After Red Rose skipper Eve Jones won the toss and elected to bat first, Lancashire made a stuttering start at 8/2, before Shachi Pai (36), Ellie Threlkeld (29) and Sophie Ecclestone (55*) added valuable runs.
However they were the only three batters to reach double figures and the home side continued to lose wickets regularly, England bowler Anya Shrubsole taking three for 16 from her 10 overs.
Lancashire were bowled out for 164 in the 45th over with Ecclestone stranded down the non strikers end after reaching her half century.
The hosts knew they would have to bowl well and made the perfect start as they stunned Somerset, reducing them to 12/4, as opening bowlers Kate Cross (2/23) and Ecclestone tore through the top order.
By the time Alex Hartley (3/8) and Laura Jackson (2/8) got in on the act, the visitors had stumbled for 59/9 with the only resistance coming from Shrubsole's score of 19.
The win was sealed the following over when Ecclestone dismissed Lauren Filer for one, to finish with figures of three for 15 from her seven overs, as Somerset were bowled out for 60.
Lancashire Women are back in action on Monday as they take on Hampshire in the Royal London Women's One-Day
