Lancashire crowned Second XI T20 winners
Second XI claim T20 trophy in Arundel
Lancashire were crowned Second XI T20 champions after a rain-affected Finals Day in Arundel.
They beat Gloucestershire in the semi finals, both of which were restricted to five overs per side, with a strong Essex side beating Durham in the second semi.
Essex seemed to be strong favourites for the nine overs per side final after restricting Lancashire to 66 for nine, with Paul Walter claiming the remarkable figures of four for 12 from his two overs.
But the Red Rose bowlers defended that target brilliantly, with Tom Hartley, a 20-year-old left-arm spinner from Ormskirk, claiming three for 12 including the key wickets of Walter, Ashar Zaidi and Rishi Patel.
Hartley had also collected the wickets of Chris Dent and James Bracey in his single over in the semi final.
Lancashire’s winning squad also included first-team regulars Tom Bailey and Haseeb Hameed, who showed his ability to adapt by making 10 off three balls in the semi – a four, a six, and then out.
Sam Cook was the star of Essex’s semi final win, taking three for 21 – with Walter belting 37 from 12 balls as he and Nick Browne secured a 10-wicket victory.
