John Gwynne named as new Lancashire Cricket Public Address Announcer
John Gwynne to replace Matt Proctor
Lancashire Cricket is delighted to confirm that life-long Red Rose supporter John Gwynne has been appointed as the Club’s new Public Address announcer.
Gwynne commentated on Lancashire Cricket Call for three seasons between 1988 and 1990, before embarking on an 11-year stint with the BBC, and has more recently worked for Sky Sports reporting on both Darts and Football.
His legendary commentary on the PDC Darts, known as ‘The Voice of Darts’, led to his induction into the PDC Hall of Fame following his 20th and final World Darts Championship back in 2013.
He is about to complete his 22nd season as a regular match reporter on Sky Sports News’ iconic Gillette Soccer Saturday show.
Gwynne replaces Matt Proctor, following his retirement at the end of the 2018 campaign after 27 years’ service to the Red Rose, on the Emirates Old Trafford microphone.
His first day in the role will be Lancashire’s Royal London One-Day Cup clash against Worcestershire this Wednesday at Emirates Old Trafford.
He said: “After supporting Lancashire throughout my life, I am delighted to return to Emirates Old Trafford as the Club’s new PA announcer.
“It will be a tough act to follow my old friend Matt Proctor, who did a magnificent job, but I will do my best and I can’t wait to get started for Lancashire’s first home game of the 2019 season on Wednesday."
