Seven sign new Lancashire contracts

Seven Academy products, including England under-19 captain George Balderson, have signed new deals at Emirates Old Trafford

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to confirm that seven young cricketers, all products of the County’s age group system,  have signed new contracts to play at Emirates Old Trafford ahead of the 2020 season.

George Balderson, George Burrows, Tom Hartley, George Lavelle and Jack Morley have all been awarded extended contracts.

Balderson, who will captain England U19s in the Caribbean this winter, played during the Club’s pre-season tour of Dubai alongside Burrows, Hartley and Lavelle while Morley has also featured in the England U19 set-up.

Young opening batsman Owais Shah and seam bowler Ed Moulton have also signed their first professional contracts with the Club.

Shah, 21, is a former Scotland U19 international who impressed for Lancashire in the Second XI Championship this summer, averaging 50.60 with the bat.

20-year-old Moulton, another product of the age group system, also featured regularly in the Seconds, claiming 18 wickets across both the Championship and One-Day competitions at an average of 25.

Lancashire Cricket’s Director of Cricket, Paul Allott said: “We’re really pleased to have engaged these seven highly promising cricketers who have all progressed through the Lancashire age-group system and played Second XI cricket regularly this summer.

“I would also like to congratulate them all upon signing their first professional contracts here at Emirates Old Trafford and wish them the best of luck on their road to becoming successful professional cricketers with Lancashire.’’

“We have a proud tradition of our own homegrown talent featuring in the First Team and that has been reinforced with the successes of players such as Matt Parkinson, Saqib Mahmood, Rob Jones and Josh Bohannon this summer.

“Some of the players have had exposure to the professional environment already and we are looking for them to further stake a claim for First XI places, particularly with an increased opportunity to feature in next season’s Royal London One-Day Cup.”
