Aspinwall and Hurst sign rookie contracts with Lancashire

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that England U19s internationals Tom Aspinwall and Matthew Hurst have signed their first rookie contracts with the Club.

All-rounder Aspinwall and wicket-keeper bat Hurst are both products of the Lancashire Cricket Academy, having joined the ranks ahead of the 2020 season.

Aspinwall, 18, played a key role in the England side which reached the U19s World Cup final earlier this year, taking seven wickets in the tournament including two in both the semi-final and final.

The Sedbergh School pupil plays club cricket for Kendal CC and was recently selected for Gujranwala Giants in the inaugural T20 Pakistan Junior League draft.

Hurst, also 18, now plays his club cricket for Leigh CC after starting out at Newton le Willows CC and recently finished studying at Winstanley College.

The pair have both featured for Lancashire’s Second XI, with Hurst notching a century in the Second XI Championship win away at Leicestershire this summer.

In England U19s recent Test series against Sri Lanka, Aspinwall claimed six wickets in the first Test whilst Hurst struck a century in the second.

Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton said: “Tom and Matthew are a pair of really exciting young talents and we are pleased to offer them their first rookie contracts.

“They have performed consistently at a high standard in both our Second XI and for England Under 19s during the last 12 months and they are fully deserving of this opportunity.

“Tom and Matthew follow in the footsteps of George Bell and Josh Boyden, who have signed rookie contracts in the last year, and we look forward to tracking their progress during the winter and into next summer.”
