Four sign contract extensions with Lancashire Cricket
Jack Blatherwick, Rob Jones, Danny Lamb and Luke Wells have all signed two-year contract extensions with Lancashire Cricket.
The renewed terms will see all four players remain at Emirates Old Trafford until at least the end of the 2023 season.
Batter Jones and all-rounder Lamb - both aged 26 - are graduates of the Lancashire Cricket Academy who have progressed to establish themselves as First Team regulars.
Warrington-born Jones currently has two First-Class centuries and six fifties on his record and also averages just short of 40 in T20 cricket after enjoying an extended run in the Lancashire Lightning XI during the last couple of summers.
Lamb enjoyed a stellar 2021 season that included a maiden First-Class century away at Kent, hitting the winning runs as Lancashire defeated Yorkshire to seal Vitality Blast qualification and a string of match winning performances in the Royal London Cup which saw him named One Day Player of the Year.
Blatherwick and Wells joined the Club on the same day in November 2020 and both came to the fore during the back end of the 2021 campaign as the Red Rose pushed Warwickshire all the way in the battle for the LV= Insurance County Championship title.
23-year-old seamer Blatherwick – who arrived at the Club from Nottinghamshire – had to be patient for his chance but took nine wickets in the final three red ball matches of the season including a memorable four for 28 during the 10-wicket win over Somerset in Taunton.
In the same match, Lancashire’s number three Luke Wells struck his first century for the Club since joining from Sussex – rounding off a season which saw Wells score 572 First-Class runs for the Red Rose at an average of 41. The 31-year-old also picked up seven wickets at just 15 with his leg breaks.
Director of Cricket Performance, Mark Chilton said: “Rob Jones and Danny Lamb have become important players in our squad across all three formats and it is great to have two Academy graduates commit their futures to the Club for at least another two seasons.
“We have also been really pleased with the additions of Jack Blatherwick and Luke Wells who both put their hands up to put in some really important performances for us towards the end of last season and we look forward to them continuing to do that for us into next season and beyond.”
