CLOSE Day 1
Lancashire 11-1 after 5.1 overs, Wells 4, trail by 241.
George Balderson is run out for 5 by a direct hit thrown by Zafar Gohar in the final over of the day. Not a good finish for Lancashire to end what has been a fascinating opening day of the home season.
Lancashire fought back after a good start by Gloucestershire to take all ten wickets for 133 runs following that opening century partnership.
Hassan Ali took a magnificent 6-47 and we are hoping to speak to him shortly for today's match report.
6.15pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 252 all out.
Hassan Ali finishes with the magnificent figures of 6-47 after Ajeet Singh Dale drives square into the hands of Josh Bohannon at point. What a performance!
Lancashire will have 6 overs to bat today.
6.00pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 240-9 after 86 overs, Higgins 43, Dale 0.
Five wickets for Hassan Ali!
The Pakistan international has bowled Josh Shaw for 18 and then has Jared Warner well caught by Danny Lamb at third slip for a duck.
That's his 17th career five-wicket haul.
5.30pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 215-7 after 79 overs, Higgins 20
Just before the new ball is due Matt Parkinson strikes!
Zafar Gohar couldn't resist going down the track and try to hit Parkinson somewhere into Stretford. He missed and Phil Salt has his first first-class stumping. Zafar has gone for 27 to end a good partnership of 65.
5.00pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 181-6 after 71 overs, Higgins 20 Zafar 15
We are seven overs in to the evening session with Zafar Gohar just having driven Saqib Mahmood through the covers for four as Gloucestershire look to rebuild after that poor afternoon session. This pair have added 31 runs so far either side of tea and have settled well on what remains a good batting pitch.
TEA Day 1
Gloucestershire 1st innings 170-6 after 64 overs, Higgins 14 Zafar 10
What a contrasting session that turned out to be!
Six wickets fell for 69 runs in 34 overs as the Lancashire attack hit back after going wicketless this morning.
Hassan Ali took three of the wickets to fall, Saqib Mahmood claimed two wickets and George Balderson the other.
3.40pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 150-6 after 57.2 overs, Higgins 0 Zafar 0
Two in two for Hassan!
Miles Hammond has a swish at Hassan Ali and nicks the delivery to wicketkeeper Phil Salt to depart for 9 and Tom Lace tries to play Hassan towards mid-wicket and is lbw first ball!
Extraordinary collapse by Gloucs from 119 for 0.
3.20pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 142-4 after 53 overs, Hammond 5, Higgins 0
After a very quiet fifty minutes with just 9 runs added, Lancashire have a fourth wicket to celebrate as Graeme van Buuren gloves a pull down the leg side off Saqib Mahmood to Phil Salt.
It has been an excellent session so far for Lancashire.
Happy Hassan!
Lancashire overseas bowler Hassan Ali celebrates after Steven Croft takes a great catch at second slip off his bowling to dismiss Chris Dent
2.30pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 133-3 after 42 overs, Hammond 0
Make that three wickets! It's Saqib Mahmood's turn to celebrate after Marcus Harris glances a delivery down the leg side that is well taken by wicketkeeper Phil Salt, ending the opener's innings at 67.
And that wicket was followed by George Balderson bowling James Bracey for 5 as the batsman inside edges a full delivery onto his stumps! Bracey has hit two hundreds in four Championship innings before today, so it's a great scalp to get.
What a turnaround.
2.15pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 119-1 after 38 overs, Harris 48 Bracey 0
Lancashire have a wicket at last!
It's Hassan Ali who makes the breakthrough with a full delivery that Chris Dent on 52 edged to second slip where Steven Croft took an excellent juggling catch. Hassan has that unique celebration going and he will feel a lot happier after seeing that drop in his previous over.
1.50pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 108-0 after 33 overs, Dent 51 Harris 48
Lancashire's afternoon hasn't started well as Marcus Harris is dropped at first slip off Hassan Ali when he was on 46. Meanwhile Chris Dent has reached his half century off 106 balls.
LUNCH Day 1
Gloucestershire 1st innings 101-0 after 30 overs, Dent 46 Harris 46
A morning that has gone Gloucestershire’s way after Graeme van Buuren called correctly at the toss.
Chris Dent and Marcus Harris have taken advantage of a good wicket to initially defend and then prosper during this first session. Both have played some really nice shots with Harris thumping Matt Parkinson over long-off for six as we approached the break.
There has been the odd playing at missing at deliveries early on as you might expect with Harris inside edging Saqib Mahmood to fine leg, but these two have batted really well this morning to reach lunch on 101-0.
12.40pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 83-0 after 24 overs, Dent 41 Harris 35.
Having weathered the early exchanges Chris Dent and Marcus Harris have really opened up in the last half hour, both playing some cracking drives to get the scoreboard ticking along nicely for Gloucestershire.
Matt Parkinson becomes the sixth Red Rose bowler to join the attack this morning.
12.15pm
Gloucestershire 1st innings 50-0 after 18 overs, Dent 21 Harris 22.
The fifty opening partnership has arrived as Chris Dent and Marcus Harris have successfully resisted everything that Messrs Anderson, Ali and Mahmood have sent their way although Dent did everything bar nick a Mahmood delivery in the last over.
As a result Dane Vilas has turned to George Balderson, who bowled so well at Kent last week, and Danny Lamb in a quest for a first wicket. Gloucestershire will probably feel that is a minor victory in the first 75 minutes of play.
11.30am
Gloucestershire 1st innings 19-0 after 7 overs, Dent 9 Harris 7.
James Anderson has switched ends and is coming in from the Brian Statham End now. That maybe to try and take advantage of the strong breeze blowing across the field from the now-demolished Red Rose Suite area of the ground.
Meanwhile Marcus Harris gets away with a big inside edge for four off Saqib Mahmood as this first morning is turning into a fascinating battle.
11.30am
Gloucestershire 1st innings 19-0 after 7 overs, Dent 9 Harris 7.
Lancashire are still hunting a breakthrough this morning, Hassan Ali having a big appeal turned down against Chris Dent moments ago, the fast bowler appealing while lying in the middle of the wicket after tumbling over in his follow-through! That still didn't impress umpire O'Shaughnessy enough to raise his finger though.
10.30am
