Peter Eckersley Memorial at Emirates Old Trafford

Peter Eckersley Memorial at Emirates Old Trafford

A Peter Eckersley Memorial will be unveiled at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday 6 September at the lunch break.

It will take place shortly after 12:30pm in the tunnel underneath the Pavilion.

The Club will remember Peter Eckersley, who was the only Lancashire cricketer killed in the Second World War.

A former Captain of the Red Rose, he represented the Club for over 11 seasons, leading Lancashire to two County Championships before becoming M.P for Manchester Exchange in 1935.

Eckersley was known as the ‘Flying Cricketer’, he once flew the Lancashire team to an away match.

At the beginning of the war, he volunteered for the Fleet Air Arm. He was killed in a flying accident along with trainee gunner Sidney Snow whilst on active service. His plane crashed at Worthy Down, Winchester on August 13 1940.

Members and supporters are openly invited to attend the memorial unveiling.
