Lancashire drew with Essex in the Second Eleven Championship match at Chester Boughton Hall.

Essex made 408 for four in their first innings on the opening day, with the second day abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain.

Lancashire replied strongly on the third day reaching stumps on 417 for five in  their first innings in reply to Essex's first innings 457 for six declared, the visitors having batted on during the third morning of the match.
