LIVE BLOG: Lancashire v Northamptonshire, Day Two

Latest updates from Emirates Old Trafford for the second day's play between Lancashire and Northamptonshire in the LV= Insurance County Championship.

5.00pm, PLAY ABANDONED FOR THE DAY
Lancashire 1st inns 121-1 (35.1 overs) Wells 61 Bohannon 3, trail by 221 runs.
With the rain continuing to fall, play has been abandoned for the day.

4.20pm, RAIN DELAY
Lancashire 1st inns 121-1 (35.1 overs) Wells 61 Bohannon 3, trail by 221 runs.
There has been no change in the weather during the past 40 minutes with light rain falling steadily, and dark clouds all around the ground.

3.37pm, TEA Day 2 - RAIN DELAY
Lancashire 1st inns 121-1 (35.1 overs) Wells 61 Bohannon 3, trail by 221 runs.
Rain has forced the players off and I think it's fair to assume we will take a slightly earlier tea break than we expected.

3.22pm
Lancashire 1st inns 114-1 (32 overs) Wells 57 Bohannon 0, trail by 228 runs.
The reverse sweep has done well for Keaton Jennings in this innings, but not from this ball!

Saif Zaib is brought into the Northamptonshire attack for the first time and the left arm spinner has the breakthrough, trapping Jennings lbw for 55 with his third delivery.

3.20pm
Lancashire 1st inns 107-0 (30 overs) Wells 52 Jennings 53, trail by 235 runs.
Luke Wells goes to his fifty, from 99 balls with 8 fours, and this is the second opening century partnership this season by Wells and Jennings.

Meanwhile, we are playing with the floodlights on as the overhead conditions are slowly starting to deteriorate.

3.10pm
Lancashire 1st inns 95-0 (29 overs) Wells 42 Jennings 53, trail by 246 runs.
Keaton Jennings reaches his fifty off 78 balls with 8 fours.

It's the fifth time in 12 innings the Lancashire skipper has reached fifty this season with 1 hundred and 4 fifties so far.

3.00pm
Lancashire 1st inns 84-0 (27 overs) Wells 35 Jennings 47, trail by 258 runs.
We've had a delay after Keaton Jennings is hit on the helmet via his arm trying to defend a short ball from Dom Leech.

He's okay to carry on - and drives Leech straight for four two balls later!

2.45pm
Lancashire 1st inns 73-0 (25 overs) Wells 34 Jennings 38, trail by 268 runs.
Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings are going along nicely, consolidating their good start with some steady batting.

2.10pm
Lancashire 1st inns 52-0 (16 overs) Wells 23 Jennings 27, trail by 290 runs.
Keaton Jennings has survived a drop at third slip off Jack White when he was on 17, but the Red Rose skipper has now lofted spinner Alex Russell for four and reverse swept for another boundary in the same over.

That's the fifty partnership reached off 96 balls.

1.50pm
Lancashire 1st inns 30-0 (11 overs) Wells 11 Jennings 17, trail by 312 runs.
Play under way after lunch as the sun continues to shine.

Northamptonshire have continued with Jack White and off spinner Alex Russell in their attack and an interesting battle is developing between Jennings and Russell, the Lancashire captain having attempted three reverse sweeps in the last over, and nailing two of them for boundaries.

1.00pm, LUNCH Day 2
Lancashire 1st inns 21-0 (8 overs) Wells 10 Jennings 9, trail by 321 runs.
Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells have both struck a couple of nicely timed boundaries as Lancashire begin their reply to Northamptonshire's 342 all out.

That represents a pretty good morning for the Red Rose with the visitors losing their last five wickets for 40 runs.

The pitch is showing signs of spin and occasional, variable bounce, so we could be in for an interesting afternoon.

12.40pm
Lancashire 1st inns 4-0 (2 overs) Wells 0 Jennings 4, trail by 338 runs.
Keaton Jennings hits the first runs of the innings by pulling Dom Leech for four to square leg. Jack white is sharing the new ball for the visitors.

12.20pm
Northamptonshire 1st inns 342 all out (116.1 overs)
A lovely delivery from Jack Morley spins sharply into middle stump to bowl James Sales for 11.

That's followed by Jack White gloving a reverse sweep off Tom Hartley into the hands of Phil Salt diving forward to his right to end the innings very suddenly.

Lancashire will have around 30 minutes to bat before lunch.

12.12pm
Northamptonshire 1st inns 340-8 (114.4 overs) Sales 11 White 0
Having pulled Jack Morley for six in the previous over, Lewis McManus tries to hit Tom Hartley for a straight six but only succeeds in holing out to Tom Bailey running back from mid-on.

He's out for 10 and Hartley strikes in his first over of the day.

12.00pm
Northamptonshire 1st inns 329-7 (111.4 overs) Sales 10 McManus 0
We are past the 110 over mark with both teams picking up 2 bonus points.

Dom Leech has defended stoutly for his 13 but is undone by a turning delivery from Jack Morley that draws him down the pitch and Phil Salt completes his second stumping of the innings.

11.40am
Northamptonshire 1st inns 312-6 (106 overs) Leech 7 Sales 3
Keaton Jennings makes a double change with Jack Morley and George Balderson coming on to bowl for the first time today.

11.30am
Northamptonshire 308-6 (103 overs) Leech 4 Sales 2
Will Williams has had a couple of big lbw shouts turned down so far today, while Tom Bailey is now bowling to four slips and a man at point as Lancashire hunt a second wicket this morning.

11.11am
Northamptonshire 305-6 (99 overs) Leech 2 Sales 0
Tom Bailey makes an early break through with Saif Zaib edging an indeterminate drive to Phil Salt behind the stumps for 19.

11.00am
Northamptonshire 302-5 (96 overs) Zaib 17 Leech 2
And we are under way in glorious sunshine with Tom Bailey bowling the opening over of the morning to Dom Leech.
