LIVE BLOG: Lancashire v Somerset, Day One

5.30pm, CLOSE OF PLAY, Day 1
Somerset 1st inns 109-4 (45.2 overs) Lammonby 34 Rew 20
Play has been abandoned for today.

4.30pm, RAIN DELAY
Somerset 1st inns 109-4 (45.2 overs) Lammonby 34 Rew 20
The weather has brightened but given it has rained steadily for the past two hours, any mopping up operation would take some time.

The covers remain in place at present.

2.47pm, RAIN DELAY
Somerset 1st inns 109-4 (45.2 overs) Lammonby 34 Rew 20
The drizzle I mentioned has turned into heavier rain and the players are coming off.

2.30pm
Somerset 1st inns 101-4 (43 overs) Lammonby 30 Rew 18
We continue under floodlights as the weather has closed on over the last half hour with some light drizzle around.

James Rew has just top edged a cut over the slips for four off Saqib Mahmood but otherwise the two Somerset batters have proceeded fairly cautiously since lunch.

2.00pm
Somerset 1st inns 82-4 (34 overs) Lammonby 25 Rew 10
Five overs into the afternoon session with Jimmy Anderson and Will Williams still finding swing and movement as they start their second spells.

1.00pm, LUNCH Day 1
Somerset 1st inns 67-4 (29 overs) Lammonby 20 Rew 2
An eventful morning to say the least; four wickets, three dropped catches and some counter-attacking cricket!

But Lancashire will feel they have had much the better of it having knocked over four top-order batsmen in the session.

12.46pm
Somerset 1st inns 55-4 (24.5 overs) Lammonby 12 Rew 0
Tom Kohler-Cadmore attacks the wrong ball and loses his leg stump to Saqib Mahmood!

12.30pm
Somerset 1st inns 52-3 (21 overs) Lammonby 10 Kohler-Cadmore 19
Tom Kohler-Cadmore has counter attacked with some well timed boundaries to move the score along quickly in last half hour. it's been a good fightback by Somerset after that early clatter of wickets.

12.08pm
Somerset 1st inns 22-3 (16 overs) Lammonby 3 Kohler-Cadmore 2
Into the second hour of the day with Jimmy Anderson taking a deserved rest after an opening spell of 8-5-5-2.

He's being replaced by Saqib Mahmood.

11.48am
Somerset 1st inns 12-3 (11.3 overs) Lammonby 1 Kohler-Cadmore 0
Will Williams strikes, beating George Bartlett's forward defence to trap the batter lbw for 0.

Great start by Lancashire!

11.42am
Somerset 1st inns 11-2 (10.3 overs) Lammonby 1 Bartlett 0
Jimmy is smiling once more! He moves this delivery back into Tom Abell who is pretty plumb lbw for 1.

That's Jimmy's 1,099th first-class wicket.

11.30am
Somerset 1st inns 10-1 (8 overs) Lammonby 1 Abell 1Tom Lammonby is enjoying more lives than the club cat! He's been dropped for a third time but the bowler can only smile ruefully this time because he's the culprit. Lammonby drove back up the wicket, Anderson stuck out his left hand but couldn't hang on to the catch. Some start.

11.16am
Somerset 1st inns 5-1 (4.2 overs) Lammonby 0 Abell 0
Jimmy is smiling now!

And probably Tom Hartley is too having taken this chance at third slip after Steven Davies edges the first ball he's faced from Anderson to depart for 4.

11.10am
Somerset 1st inns 0-0 (3 overs) Lammonby 0 Davies 0We've had two overs from Jimmy Anderson and England's finest has seen two catches go down off his bowling, a tough one at first slip in his first over and another at third slip from his eighth delivery, Tom Lammonby the lucky batter on both occasions.

I would hazard a guess Jimmy's not particularly thrilled at the moment.

10.30am

Welcome to our blog for our second home match in the LV= County Championship match against Somerset  – the last game before the competition makes way for the start of the T20 Blast.

Currently we have dry and cloudy conditions at Emirates Old Trafford.

Our first encounter at Taunton last month ended as a high-scoring draw where skipper Keaton Jennings unfortunately picked up an injury after scoring a brilliant unbeaten 189. Dane Vilas has resumed the captaincy role in Keaton’s absence who is the only injury concern at present.

Lancashire have announced a 15-man squad for this match with new overseas signing Daryl Mitchell set to make his Red Rose debut.

Somerset, who have drawn three matches and lost one so far, also have Matt Henry making his debut with the Kiwi replacing Cam Bancroft in one of the overseas spots.

While we wait for the start of play, have a read of our Match Preview.
