LIVE BLOG: Lancashire v Surrey-Day Three

6.29pm
Lancashire 2nd innings 37-0 need a further 407 runs to win, Wells 28 Jennings 9
Some positive batting from Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings has seen Lancashire safely through to close of play and we will return tomorrow at 11am for the fourth and final day.

5.50pm
Lancashire 2nd innings 2-0 need a further 442 runs to win, Wells 2 Jennings 0
There are 11 overs to be bowled tonight and Luke Wells gets the first runs of the innings with a off drive for 2 in the third over.

5.30pm
Surrey 2nd innings 292-6 declared, Foakes 103 Clark 27
Ben Foakes was denied the chance of a century in the first innings due to a brilliant catch by Colin de Grandhomme, but he's got there this time with another fine knock.

His century came off 93 balls with 12 fours and 1 six and also brings about the declaration.

Lancashire will need 444 from a minimum of 107 overs.

4.55pm
Surrey 2nd innings 227-6 lead by 378 runs, Foakes 66 Clark 0
Matt Parkinson has a fifth wicket and it's also his 150th first-class wicket!

Cam Steel probably won't want to see this again, but he misses a big sweep, the ball hits both of the legs before tickling onto the stumps. He's gone for 31.

4.50pm
Surrey 2nd innings 219-5 lead by 370 runs, Foakes 59 Steel 30
Surrey continue to build their lead with Ben Foakes reaching his second fifty in the match adding 53 for this wicket with Cam Steel.

4.11pm, TEA Day 3
Surrey 2nd innings 184-5 lead by 335 runs, Foakes 47 Steel 11
The visitors have a healthy lead going into the break and the question now appears to be all about the declaration and when it will arrive.

3.50pm
Surrey 2nd innings 166-5 lead by 317 runs, Foakes 42 Steel 0
Make that four wickets for Matt Parkinson as Jamie Smith top edges a sweep to Steven Croft at short fine leg for 13.

3.40pm
Surrey 2nd innings 147-4 lead by 300 runs, Foakes 31 Smith 7
The Surrey lead reaches 300 and we have six overs left before the tea interval.

Ben Foakes and Jamie Smith are just going along steadily at the moment, content to push for singles in the main and Lancashire looking to dry up the scoring opportunities wherever possible.

3.20pm
Surrey 2nd innings 134-4 lead by 285 runs, Foakes 26 Smith 0
Rory Burns top edges a sweep off Matt Parkinson that drops into the hands of Dane Vilas at backward short leg. The Surrey skipper departs for 54 and that's a third wicket for Matt Parkinson.

3.00pm
Surrey 2nd innings 119-3 lead by 270 runs, Burns 50 Foakes 17
That's a half century for Rory Burns from 92 balls with 4 fours while Ben Foakes has produced a sweetly timed drive that pinged off the bat for four as Surrey extend the lead well past 250.

2.40pm
Surrey 2nd innings 89-3 lead by 240 runs, Burns 38 Foakes 0
And Parkinson has two-in-two!

Ryan Patel plays back fatally and is beaten all end-up by a big spinning leg break that cannons into the stumps. Great delivery!

There's no hat-trick though as Ben Foakes plays defensively at the next ball.

2.30pm
Surrey 2nd innings 85-2 lead by 236 runs, Burns 34 Patel 0
Rory Burns and Ollie Pope are stepping up the scoring now with Pope hitting 14 off the last over from Will Williams and the Lancashire field is spreading out.

And Pope on 38 then top edges a sweep off Matt Parkinson that is brilliantly caught at midwicket by a diving Colin de Grandhomme who is quietly having an impressive Red Rose debut.

2.00pm
Surrey 2nd innings 44-1 lead by 185 runs, Burns 23 Pope 8
Ollie Pope is having a concussion test after a lifting delivery from Will Williams hits him on the helmet as the batsman was playing a leave. He's okay and after the check is over we carry on.

1.45pm
Surrey 2nd innings 34-1 lead by 175 runs, Burns 18 Pope 4
Underway in the afternoon sunshine with Will Williams and Tom Bailey looking for another early breakthrough.

12.58pm, LUNCH Day 3
Surrey 2nd innings 24-1 Burns 16 lead by 175 runs.
Will Williams strikes with the last ball before lunch!

The Lancashire seamer nips one back that traps Dom Sibley in front for 6 and the batsman didn't even wait for the decision! Plumb.

12.35pm
Surrey 2nd innings 5-0 Burns 4 Sibley 1 lead by 156 runs.
Tom Bailey and Will Williams asking a few questions of the Surrey opening pair who are understandably cautious during these opening overs as we head towards lunch on day three.

12.13pm
Surrey 2nd innings 0-0 Burns 0 Sibley 0 lead by 151 runs.
Rory Burns has decided against enforcing the follow-on and he is out in the middle with Dom Sibley to try and significantly extend the visitors' lead.

12.03pm
Lancashire first innings 291 all out (92.2 overs) trail by 151 runs, de Grandhomme 67 not out.
Matt Parkinson has his middle stump taken out by dan Worrall having made 5 and we wait to see if Surrey will enforce the follow-on.

A word though for an excellent innings by Colin de Grandhomme on his Red Rose debut, and he has helped Lancashire get much closer Surrey's total than you might have expected.

Aussie all-rounder Sean Abbott finished with the fine figures of 20-5-50-5 on his Surrey debut.

Bonus points: Lancashire 4, Surrey 7.

11.47am
Lancashire first innings 278-9 (89.1 overs) trail by 174 runs, de Grandhomme 58 Parkinson 0
Rory Burns turns to Sean Abbott for a breakthrough and it pays dividends first ball as Will Williams is trapped lbw for 30 to end a valuable 81-run partnership.

It was also Williams' best innings for Lancashire bettering his unbeaten 29 against Northants last season.

11.40am
Lancashire first innings 268-8 (87.3 overs) trail by 174 runs, de Grandhomme 50 Williams 29
Colin de Grandhomme has a Lancashire debut half century from 70 balls with 1 six and 4 fours! What a good innings it has been.

11.15am
Lancashire first innings 251-8 (81 overs) de Grandhomme 42 Williams 21
Surrey take the new ball with Kemar Roach and Dan Worrall returning to the attack, and Lancashire have a batting point having reached 250.

11.05am
Lancashire first innings 247-8 (79 overs) de Grandhomme 40 Williams 20
Surrey spring a slight surprise opening the day with the off spin of Dom Sibley - but the new ball is only three overs away.

And Sibley starts with a no ball!

Three balls later Colin de Grandhomme launches Sibley to deep square leg where Ryan Patel makes a great effort to catch the ball, throw it in the air as he is about to fall over the boundary, but then slips as he tries to recover and re-catch the ball. It's given as a four.

Two balls later de Grandhomme nails the same shot which sails over the square leg boundary for six!

That's been a fairly dramatic start to the day, with that six also bringing up the 50 partnership.

10.00am
Good morning from Emirates Old Trafford where the sun continues to shine!

Play in our LV= County Championship will get under way on time at 11am when Colin de Grandhomme (29 not out) and Will Williams (19 not out) will look to extend their 36-run partnership and try to push the Lancashire first innings on from 233-8 with the Red Rose still 206 runs behind Surrey.

The first target will be to try and avoid the follow-on with 57 runs required to achieve that task.
