SECOND XI REPORT: Aspinwall, Singh steer Lancashire to a three-wicket win at Durham

Half centuries by Tom Aspinwall and Harry Singh in a century partnership steered Lancashire to a closely-fought, three-wicket victory against Durham at Burnopfield.

The pair came together just before the close of the third day with Lancashire needing 115 runs, with five wickets remaining, for victory.

And the Lancashire duo combined brilliantly this morning with Aspinwall making a Second XI Championship best of 79 not out off 98 balls and Singh making a patient, steady 66 to defy all the efforts of the Durham attack.

Their partnership of 109 took Lancashire to the verge of victory before Singh was bowled by Daniel Hogg who then trapped Cian Dickinson lbw two balls later with a fine yorker.

Aspinwall, who hit two sixes in four balls off Oli Gibson – the first taking the Lancashire all-rounder to a 65-ball fifty – remained to clinch victory shortly before lunch, fittingly alongside Jack Morley (2 not out) whose 12-wicket match haul had done so much to set up the win.

As a result Lancashire move up to second place in the Second XI Championship table with a points average of 14.63 behind leaders Leicestershire who have 15.50.

Lancashire play Worcestershire in the Second XI Championship at Northern CC, Crosby next week starting on Monday, 11am.
