SECOND XI REPORT: Blatherwick blast seals innings victory against Glamorgan

SECOND XI REPORT: Blatherwick blast seals innings victory against Glamorgan

Jack Blatherwick clinched an emphatic innings and 63-run victory with a triple-wicket maiden over after an earlier brace by Jack Morley had broken some Glamorgan resistance as the visitors battled hard to avoid an innings defeat on the third day at Northern C.C.

Blatherwick put paid to those hopes in spectacular style midway through the afternoon to seal a second win of the season in the Second Eleven Championship.

Starting the day facing a huge deficit of 242 runs with six wickets left, Glamorgan lost two in the morning session.

Skipper Callum Taylor went first following a determined 32 when he edged a sharply turning delivery from leg spinner Cian Dickinson to Matty Hurst, who had taken over behind the stumps from George Lavelle.

Former Lancashire Academy batter J.J. Fielding, called into the side to replace the injured Alex Horton, was the other morning success for the Red Rose when he was bowled for 31 pushing forward at Jack Morley.

Zain Ul-Hassan went on the attack hitting 10 fours in a 51-ball half century and adding 62 for seventh wicket with Andrew Gorvin before the latter was lbw for 18 playing back to the off spin of Arav Shetty.

Prem Sisodiya struck seven fours in making 35 off 46 balls to add a further 53 with Ul-Hassan before Blatherwick struck swiftly with three wickets – all bowled – in five balls.

Sisodiya had his leg stump knocked back, Ben Morris lost his off stump to the next ball and Blatherwick made it a triple-wicket maiden over when he hit middle and leg three balls later to dismiss Asim Hameed.

Zain Ul-Hassan was left unbeaten on 64 with Glamorgan 249 all out as Lancashire made it two wins from three games in the competition.
