SECOND XI REPORT: Bohannon hits century after Morley takes six wickets

SECOND XI REPORT: Bohannon hits century after Morley takes six wickets

Josh Bohannon struck a century after Jack Morley claimed his third Second XI six-wicket haul on the second day of the Second XI Championship match against Durham at Burnopfield.

Morley’s success helped bowl the hosts out for 384 with Lancashire making 301 for nine to trail by 83 runs at the close of play.

Resuming on 346 for six, Morley made short work of the Durham lower order taking all remaining four wickets in a 23-ball spell to finish with six for 121. Stanley McAlindon (11) and Daniel Hogg (4) were both bowled while Oli Gibson would have been if he hadn’t got his pads in the way. Haydon Mustard, having completed a 55-ball half century chipped Morley to mid-on as Lancashire wrapped up the Durham innings inside 11 overs.

And the Red Rose side replied strongly after losing skipper Keaton Jennings for 7, lbw to Gibson.

George Balderson and Bohannon added 56 runs for the second wicket until Balderson drove McAlindon to Harry Crawshaw at cover for 27 just after lunch.

That brought Bohannon and Rob Jones together and the pair added 152 runs with some attacking shots over the course of the following 25 overs, interrupted by two short rain stoppages the second of which brought an early tea with Lancashire 205 for two. By then Jones had made a 60-ball half century with Bohannon on 92, having taken eight balls more to reach his fifty.

But Durham fought back after the break with two key wickets. First Jones was lbw for 60 to a Gibson yorker and Bohannon, having struck two sixes and reaching his century from his 14th four when dispatching off-spinner George Drissell to midwicket, departed for 106 after inside-edging onto his stumps off Hogg.

They were the first of seven wickets to fall for 69 runs as the hosts worked their way through the rest of the batting. Hogg (3-43) had George Lavelle caught at first slip for 6, Brandon Glover trapped Matty Hurst lbw for 14 playing across the line and Tom Aspinwall (11) was also lbw sweeping at Drissell.

Harry Singh, who was making a welcome return from a shoulder injury, batted nicely in making 36 until he was bowled around his legs sweeping at left arm spinner Sebastian Hughes-Piñán, leaving Morley (3 not out) and Josh Boyden (6 not out) to see out the rest of the day.

Lancashire's last pair will resume in the morning 83 runs behind.
