SECOND XI REPORT: Century partnership the highlight for Lancashire as Yorkshire dominate the second day at Southport

A century partnership between Harry Singh and Jack Morley was the standout highlight for Lancashire on the second day of the Roses match at Southport where Yorkshire have built a commanding lead.

Yorkshire had made 433 all out on the opening day and their bowlers dominated most of the second, skittling a young Lancashire side for 185. The visitors decided against enforcing the follow-on and had reached 137 for five by the close, Morley taking 4-34, to lead by 385 runs.

Lancashire made a disastrous start to the day to be 31 for four by the 11th over, Dom Leech and Michael Edwards both taking a brace of wickets to establish early control.

Ben Mike had Lucas Selby caught at fine leg for 13 and Joe Chapple edged Charlie McMurran to slip for 18 as Lancashire slumped to 81 for six.

While wickets had tumbled at one end, opener Singh had stood firm at the other and he found great support from Morley as the pair added 101 for the seventh wicket.

Singh reached a patient half century off 105 balls of the course of two hours, forty minutes while Morley compiled a Second XI best 57, taking 74 balls to reach his fifty.

Both fell on the same score of 182; Morley bowled by Shutt and Singh caught at short leg off Yash Vagadia for an excellent 75.

Jack Shutt swiftly ended the innings with two lbws to give Yorkshire a massive 296 run lead that the visitors then set about extending.

Will Luxton and Vagadia posted 81 for the first wicket before Morley claimed three wickets in quick succession, bowling Vagadia for 40 (off 33 balls), trapping Arav Shetty lbw for 2 and bowling Harry Duke for a four-ball duck to leave Yorkshire 89 for three.

And Morley claimed a fourth when he bowled Luxton for 68 while Cian Dickinson bowled Mike for 3 just before the close, with Yorkshire 137 for five at stumps and leading by 385 runs.
