SECOND XI REPORT: Dickinson dazzles with record Roses ton

SECOND XI REPORT: Dickinson dazzles with record Roses ton

Cian Dickinson scored a magnificent century - and made the highest 2ndXI Championship score for Lancashire against Yorkshire - on the opening day at York as the Red Rose side reached the close on 370-4 from 96 overs after being put in to bat.

Dickinson scored a century last weekend for Bradshaw C.C., and continued his good form today, reaching his maiden ‘ton’ for Lancashire’s second team in style with a pulled six off Matt Revis having taken 183 balls to reach three figures.

That was second of 5 sixes, along with 19 fours, hit by the former Lancashire Academy all-rounder, who has played league cricket either side of the Pennines due to his time at Scarborough College, and he moved on swiftly taking only another 48 balls to reach his 150.

Dickinson, who cut and drove superbly, finally fell for 184 when he edged Ben Mike, operating with the new ball, to Revis at first slip just six overs before the close.

His outstanding innings dominated the day and understandably overshadowed the excellent support he received from Harry Singh and George Lavelle.

Singh and Dickinson had made the perfect start, compiling a century partnership and reaching 111 by lunch as the White Rose attack toiled in vain for a breakthrough. That finally arrived just after the interval when Singh edged a good length delivery from Ben Cliff to Harry Duke – who had taken over as wicketkeeper from Jonny Tattersall at the break – after making 59 out of 130 for the opening wicket.

Lavelle struck three sixes and 6 fours in his 69, to build another good partnership with Dickinson that added 124 runs inside 33 overs, before the Red Rose wicketkeeper/batter miscued a pull off leg spinner Jafer Chohan that went to Dom Leech at midwicket.

Danny Lamb flicked a leg side delivery from Cliff to Leech at fine leg after making 4, but Matty Hurst (21 not out) and Tom Aspinwall (13 not out) reached stumps safely.
