SECOND XI REPORT: Lancashire seal ten wicket Championship victory against Yorkshire

SECOND XI REPORT: Lancashire seal ten wicket Championship victory against Yorkshire

Danny Lamb and Jack Morley both took three wickets as Lancashire bowled Yorkshire out for 320 in their second innings to set up a third victory from four Second Eleven Championship matches this season. Red Rose openers Harry Singh and Arav Shetty then made short work of scoring the 72 runs required to clinch a convincing ten-wicket victory inside three days at York.

A century by Matt Revis – in a century partnership with Harry Duke – led the Yorkshire fightback on day three after the hosts had followed-on, resuming on 73-2 but still needing another 176 runs to make Lancashire bat again. And the White Rose lost an early wicket when Jonny Tattersall edged a good length Lamb delivery to wicketkeeper George Lavelle for 1.

But Lancashire had to wait until the afternoon for a further success as Revis and Duke produced an excellent, resilient, stand of 133 that took Yorkshire close to the follow-on target before Duke on 66 edged a drive at a swinging Tom Aspinwall delivery that flew to Cian Dickinson at second slip.

Revis, whose fine innings took him to a century off 191 balls, followed nine overs later when he was lbw for 112, playing back to Morley with Yorkshire two runs away from drawing level with five wickets left.

The Red Rose attack then steadily worked their way through the remaining wickets either side of tea.

Left-arm spinner Charlie Barnard bowled Ben Mike for 1, while Dom Leech had his stumps knocked back when he played no shot to Morley after making 13 – the second such dismissal enjoyed by the Lancashire left-arm spinner in this innings.

Yash Vagadia, who top-scored with an attacking 74 in the first innings, hit a six and 4 fours in his 38 this time around but he was well caught by a diving Singh at second slip after driving hard at Lamb who then nipped one back to bowl Jafer Chohan for 14.

And Aspinwall wrapped up the innings having Jack Shutt caught behind for 17 leaving Lancashire requiring 72 to win.

Singh (23 not out) and Arav Shetty (44 not out off 37 balls) eased to the target midway through the 15th over just after 6pm.
