SECOND XI REPORT: Lavelle half century boosts Lancs on opening day v Warwicks

Lancashire were bowled out for 175 on the opening day of their Second XI Championship match against Warwickshire reached the close on 77 for two at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.

Two pacey seaming deliveries from Yadvinder Singh accounted for Harry Singh (11) and Matty Hurst (0) inside ten overs after Lancashire had won the toss before George Lavelle and Jon Fielding steadied the innings with a 47-run partnership for the third wicket.

Fielding was bowled for 14 by Sam Atkinson and Danny Lamb edged a lifting delivery from Henry Brookes to wicketkeeper Chris Benjamin for 4 to leave Lancashire 86 for four just after lunch.

Lavelle quickly became the mainstay of the innings and the Lancashire skipper pulled Brookes for six on his way to a 95-ball half century before being lbw for 61 by Singh.

Gennaro Reddy became the first of four wickets for Jake Lintott when trapped lbw for 13 by the left arm spinner who then had Lucas Selby caught and bowled for 1.

Lintoff finished with four for 25 when he had Harvey Walker stumped for 8 and Harry Birkman caught for 2 soon after the break.

Amir Khan edged behind to Lavelle off Lamb for 6 and Nikhil Gorantla top edged a pull off James Dunn to be caught at midwicket by Morley for 19 before Ismail Mohammed (32 not out) and Chris Benjamin (19 not out) reached stumps with Warwickshire 77 for 2, trailing by 98 runs.
