SECOND XI REPORT: Ten wicket match for Parkinson as Second XI win by five wickets

SECOND XI REPORT: Ten wicket match for Parkinson as Second XI win by five wickets

Matt Parkinson claimed a second five-wicket haul to finish with match figures of 10-87 as Lancashire clinched a five-wicket victory against Worcestershire in their Second Eleven Championship encounter at Kidderminster.

After taking the remaining four Worcestershire wickets for the addition of only 14 runs at the start of the day, Lancashire wobbled slightly in pursuit of their target of 64 losing five wickets before Tom Aspinwall (15 not out) and Arav Shetty (4 not out) delivered victory just before lunch.

Worcestershire resumed on 109-6 with a slender lead of 38 runs but immediately lost a wicket when Parkinson struck with the third ball of the day, Adam Sylvester edging behind for 0 after failing to cover a sharply turning delivery.

Mitchell Stanley, who clubbed his second delivery for six, drove his eighth into the hands of Harry Singh at cover to give Parkinson his fifth wicket – and tenth in the match.

Morley wrapped up the innings by taking the final two wickets; Henry Cullen offering a straightforward return catch having made 23 and Adnan Ghaus slicing a wild slog to Singh at cover point for 0 to be 223 all out.

Chasing 64 to win proved not to be straightforward on a wicket taking spin with Singh pulling Kashif Ali to midwicket for 18, just after George Lavelle had become the first of four wickets for Taylor Cornall after edging to first slip.

Matty Hurst became the third wicket to fall with the score stuck on 31 when he was stumped for 0 after going down the track to Cornall who then had Danny Lamb caught at slip to leave Lancashire on 37-4.

Luke Wood was caught at short leg for 5 before Aspinwall and Shetty knocked off the required runs.
