Keaton Jennings signs landmark five-year contract with Lancashire
Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that club captain Keaton Jennings has committed his long-term future to the Red Rose by signing a new landmark five-year contract.
Jennings’ contract was due to expire at the end of the 2025 season, but the 32-year-old has now put pen-to-paper on a deal to stay at Emirates Old Trafford until the end of 2029.
Since joining Lancashire from Durham ahead of the 2018 season, Jennings has made 177 appearances for the club and has become one of the most prolific run scorers in red-ball cricket with 5,133 runs at an average of 48.
The opening batter has struck 15 first-class centuries in that time, including a career best score of 318 against Somerset during the 2022 season. That campaign saw Jennings score more than 2,000 runs in all formats, while his haul of 1,233 Championship runs was the most in Division One.
Jennings has added a further six centuries and 22 half-centuries in white-ball cricket during his time at Lancashire and captained the One-Day Cup final in 2022 with Dane Vilas injured, as a precursor to his permanent appointment as captain the following summer.
Speaking about the news to LancsTV, Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings said: “It’s awesome to commit to this club for a long period of time. I have made Lancashire Cricket my home for the last seven years now and I am looking forward to what is ahead for the next few seasons.
“A long-term deal like this represents a strong level of commitment from both parties and I am over the moon to have signed this contract. Lancashire is a fantastic club, and we have a squad that really wants to push forward and win trophies with the Red Rose on our chests.
“I am proud to be captain of this club and despite a tough year last season, I believe that we have a squad of high-quality individuals in our staff – both playing and coaching – so hopefully we can really push towards the top end of all three tables next year, which would be amazing.”
Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton also commented: “Securing Keaton’s future has been one our main priorities this winter and we are delighted to reach an agreement on an unprecedented contract which provides both the club and Keaton with long-term security.
“Keaton leads by example on and off the field, his performances with the bat at the top of the order have been outstanding for a number of years now. He sets extremely high standards as a captain and is also a fantastic ambassador for Lancashire Cricket.
“There was a strong desire from both sides to get this deal done which shows a mutual commitment and ensures Keaton will continue to play a key role for us in the coming years. This contract also provides us with additional protection over franchise cricket, which ensures his red-ball availability.”
