Lancashire dismiss Karnataka for 356 on day one in Bangalore
Lancashire battled through a full day of fielding in the searing Indian heat on day one of the their three-day red ball friendly match against Karnataka in Bengaluru - ending the day by bowling the hosts out for 356.
Captain Keaton Jennings won the toss and elected to field as he looked to get some pre-season miles in the tank of his bowlers ahead of the County Championship curtain raiser against Surrey in just over two weeks' time.
Lancashire's opening bowlers Tom Bailey and Will Williams bowled tightly up front, creating a number of chances but it was first change bowlers George Balderson (2 for 24) and Tom Aspinwall (2 for 39) who cashed in with the first three wickets before lunch as Karnataka headed into the break on 101 for 3.
After the interval, the home side dug in through captain Smaran Ravi - who reached his century in the evening session - and Samit Dravid, son of Rahul, who was dismissed for 25 via a peach from Jack Morley (3 for 125).
Balderson picked up his second wicket of the afternoon session following lightning-quick work by George Bell behind the stumps to dismiss Sujay Sateri for 36 and send the hosts into tea on 230 for 5.
Lancashire battled through the evening session as fatigued kicked in during their first long form fielding effort of the year; Morley picking up his second wicket just three balls into the session as he trapped Appana LBW.
Luke Wells (3 for 48) bowled regularly throughout the final session and picked up the final three wickets, starting with the Karnataka skipper Ravi for 111 before dismissing tailenders Adhoksh Hegde and Moshin Khan as the home side were bowled out for 356 after 83 overs.
Following a gruelling day in the Indian heat, the Red Rose batters will return tomorrow to start their reply in this three day game at the Three Ovals Alur Stadium.
