Lancashire sign George Dockrell for the Vitality Blast
Lancashire Lightning can announce the overseas signing of Ireland international George Dockrell for the remainder of this summer’s Vitality Blast.
The experienced spin bowling all-rounder will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s match against Notts Outlaws at Emirates Old Trafford and will be available for all remaining matches, including any potential knockout stage fixtures in September.
Left-arm spinner Dockrell made his international debut for Ireland as a 17-year-old in 2010 and has since made over 250 appearances across all formats for his country.
In T20 internationals, Dockrell has picked up 83 wickets at an economy of just above 7 and scored over 1,000 runs at an average of 20.
Dockrell played county cricket for Somerset from 2011 to 2015 and represents Leinster Lightning in Ireland’s inter-provincial competitions.
After signing his contract with Lancashire, George Dockrell commented: “I am delighted to join the Club for the rest of this summer’s Vitality Blast, and I am looking forward to helping Lancashire Lightning push for some silverware this season.
“We are in a really strong position in the North Group, with two important home games remaining as we look to secure that all important home quarter-final at Emirates Old Trafford in September.”
Speaking to LancsTV, head coach Dale Benkenstein said: “We are really pleased to add George into our squad for the rest of the Vitality Blast this year.
“With the potential for knockout round matches in September and uncertainty around player availability, George provides us with another overseas option for the latter stages.
“He will go straight into the squad for the final two matches of the group stage this week will offer us an experienced left-arm spin option, while he can also be a match-winner with the bat in the finisher role as he has proven on the international stage with Ireland.”
