Lancashire step up pre-season with two overseas training camps

Lancashire step up pre-season with two overseas training camps

Lancashire Cricket’s preparations for the 2024 season will step up with two overseas training camps - featuring several members of the men’s First Team squad - taking place over the next fortnight.

The first training group, which includes a blend of First Team and Academy players, are heading to Sri Lanka to take part in outdoor training and match practice against local opposition over the next 10 days. They will be joined by Head of Talent Pathway Chris Benbow, First Team Assistant Coach Steven Croft and Academy Performance Coach Kyle Hogg.

The second training group will see a number of First Team bowlers depart for Desert Springs in Spain next week – a number of pace bowlers alongside spin bowling all-rounder Luke Wells will be joined by new Head Coach Dale Benkenstein and Lead Bowling Coach Craig White on the trip.

Several other members of the squad remain overseas where they have been playing international, franchise and club cricket throughout the winter and will rejoin the Red Rose ahead of the Club’s main pre-season tour in March – details of which are set to be announced soon.

Sri Lanka travelling squad:

First Team - Tom Aspinwall, George Balderson, Matthew Hurst, Jack Morley, Harry Singh

Academy - Joe Chapple, Corey Flintoff, Rocky Flintoff, Keshana Fonseka, George Harris, Haider Hussain, Joe Moores, Charlie Parkinson, Gennaro Reddy

Desert Springs camp:

Jack Blatherwick, Saqib Mahmood, Mitchell Stanley, Luke Wells, Will Williams

Speaking about the two trips this month, Head Coach Dale Benkenstein said: “We are very fortunate to have all of these opportunities available for our players. After a winter of hard work in the UK, having the chance to get abroad and to train and play outdoors will definitely help us to be ready for the beginning of the season.

“The Sri Lanka trip is great, as we combine our contracted players alongside the next wave of talent from the Academy, into an environment where they can get their boots on and play some competitive cricket in subcontinent conditions – it should be a great learning curve for them all.

“Desert Springs will see our bowling group look to get their loads up before the main pre-season tour in March. Your bowling attack are your weapons, and it is important we look after them - so to be able to get out of the indoor centre and strap on their boots in warmer, dry conditions is vital.”
