5.30pm, CLOSE Day 1
Warwickshire 1st inns 89-3 (39 overs) Davies 47* Mousley 1*
The covers came off which got everybody excited (I think), but the hover cover is now back on the wicket after the umpires have informed us we are not playing due to bad light.

5.09pm, RAIN DELAY
Warwickshire 1st inns 89-3 (39 overs) Davies 47* Mousley 1*
Steady, heavy drizzle is falling and play has been halted.

4.57pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 82-3 (36.3 overs) Davies 41* Mousley 0*
What a day Tom Bailey is having!

Ed Barnard pushes at a delivery just outside off stump and nicks behind to Matty Hurst and that's Bailey's third wicket.

4.30pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 74-2 (33 overs) Davies 35* Barnard 0*
Tom Bailey strikes for a second time in the third over after tea.

Will Rhodes inside edges behind to Matty Hurst for 14.

After that attritional afternoon session, it is just the start Lancashire were looking for post-tea.

4.10pm, TEA Day 1
Warwickshire 1st inns 73-1 (30 overs) Davies 35* Rhodes 13*
The visitors have made steady, careful progress after winning the toss with just the one wicket for Lancashire to celebrate so far.

It has remained cloudy and gloomy throughout, with the majority of the session played with the floodlights on.

3.55pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 66-1 (26 overs) Davies 30* Rhodes 12*
This cagey, careful start continues as Lancashire are drying up the runs and hunting a second wicket.

3.30pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 50-1 (19 overs) Davies 18* Rhodes 9*
That wicket and the introduction of Nathan Lyon who is through three overs for six runs has dramatically reduced the scoring rate as we continue in gloomy conditions under the floodlights.

2.56pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 38-1 (11 overs) Davies 13* Rhodes 0*
That's a beauty of a delivery from Tom Bailey who angles the ball back into Rob Yates from around the wicket, the left hander offering no shot and is bowled for 19.

2.45pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 26-0 (8 overs) Yates 11* Davies 13*
Warwickshire making early, steady progress although tom Bailey had a big shout for lbw against Alex Davies turned down in his last over.

2.17pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 9-0 (2 overs) Yates 4* Davies 5*
Alex Davies is squared up by George Balderson but the outside edge scuttles away past third slip for four.

Later in the over Rob Yates gets a more authentic drive away through cover for four.

2.10pm
Warwickshire 1st inns 0-0 (1 over) Yates 0* Davies 0*
Play under way with Tom Bailey bowling to the left handed Rob Yates.

1.45pm
TOSS: Warwickshire have won the toss and will bat.

1.40pm
I'm pleased to say that play will start at 2.10pm with tea at 4.10pm and a minimum of 64 overs to be bowled today.

We will have the toss and team news shortly.

12.45pm
The umpireshave made an inspection and will return for a further look at 1.30pm.

12.00pm
A more promising view of the ground now with the covers removed and the groundstaff are out with the mowers and roller. The water hog is continuing to circle the outfield mopping up.

10.15am
We have had an update from the umpires.

There will be no play before lunch which will be taken at 12.30.

No decision on play will be made until after lunch.

9.30am
Goodmorning from Emirates Old Trafford ahead of our Vitality County Championship match against Warwickshire.

After heavy rain in last two days the ground conditions are soggy to say the least and a delayed start today looks pretty inevitable.

At the moment we have steady drizzle falling although the forecast is for this to stop mid-morning, and that will hopefully allow the groundstaff to start mopping up once again.

For now the covers remain in place.

When the game does get under way, Lancashire buoyed by last week’s win against Durham at Blackpool will look to back up that success and get off the bottom of the table, while visitors Warwickshire, who lost last week to Essex, will be seeking a first Championship win of the season and a first win in this competition at Emirates Old Trafford since 1984.

MATCH PREVIEW

TEAM NEWS
Lancashire squad:  Luke Wells, Keaton Jennings (capt), Josh Bohannon, George Bell, Tom Bruce, George Balderson, Matty Hurst (wkt), Tom Aspinwall, Tom Bailey, Jack Blatherwick, Will Williams, Nathan Lyon, George Lavelle, Jack Morley.

Head Coach Dale Benkenstein has made one change to the 14-man squad named ahead of Lancashire's win over Durham in Blackpool last week - with left-arm spinner Jack Morley, recalled from his loan spell with Derbyshire, replacing Saqib Mahmood.

27-year-old Mahmood has been rested as part of the planned management of his bowling workloads, following his recent return from long-term injury.

Lancashire are also without Jos Buttler, Tom Hartley, Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt who are currently taking part in England's IT20 series with Pakistan before the T20 World Cup.

Warwickshire squad: Alex Davies (capt), Hassan Ali, Ed Barnard, Chris Benjamin, Jacob Bethell, Michael Burgess, Olly Hannon-Dalby, Jake Lintott, Craig Miles, Dan Mousley, Michael Rae, Will Rhodes, Che Simmons, Rob Yates.

Hassan Ali has been released by Pakistan from their IT20 series in England and returns  along with seamer Craig Miles who has recovered from the ankle injury he suffered at Surrey.

Sam Hain – who was withdrawn from the Essex game after being hit on the helmet fielding at short leg – misses the trip as concussion protocol mandates players must sit out for at least seven days.

Chris Benjamin who hit a double-century and a century in recent Second XI games, comes into the squad but spinner Danny Briggs also misses out with a finger injury sustained in training.

Pakistan pacer Aamir Jamal remains sidelined with a back niggle, while Michael Booth, Chris Rushworth and Liam Norwell are still recovering from injury.
