LIVE BLOG: Lancs v Hampshire, Day One
6.21pm
Hampshire 1st inns 330-9 (96 overs) Dawson 46 Abbas 0
An eventful end to an eventful session as Liam Dawson hits the last two balls of the day from Luke Wells for six and a four!
But that was an excellent comeback by Lancashire who got themselves back into this game taking six wickets in the final session.
6.11pm
Hampshire 1st inns 317-9 (94 overs) Dawson 33 Abbas 0
A third wicket for Luke Wells as he traps John Turner lbw first ball!
6.05pm
Hampshire 1st inns 314-8 (93 overs) Dawson 28 Turner 0
Two in the over for George Balderson who traps Kyle Abbott lbw for 0!
6.02pm
Hampshire 1st inns 312-7 (93 overs) Dawson 28 Abbott 0
George Balderson has deserved that, finding the edge of Fuller's bat and he departs caught behind for 23.
5.55pm
Hampshire 1st inns 310-6 (91 overs) Dawson 28 Fuller 23
Dawson and Fuller have added some vital runs for Hampshire although both have had some near misses with the ball just evading fielders in the slips and Balderson nearly pulling off a sensational diving catch at mid-on off Fuller.
5.25pm
Hampshire 1st inns 267-6 (84 overs) Dawson 9 Fuller 3
Tom Aspinwall strikes again, looked like a slower delivery that Tom Prest plays at too early and his drive goes to Venkatesh Iyer at point.
5.15pm, NEW BALL TAKEN
Hampshire 1st inns 261-5 (82 overs) Dawson 7 Prest 0
Tom Aspinwall has his hands on his head as Ben Brown pulls a short delivery straight to Luke Wells at square leg for 40. Not the best ball Tom will ever bowl, but it is in the scorebook - his second wicket of the day.
And if to underline the fortunes of a bowler, Aspinwall beats Tom Prest all ends up second ball without reward.
4.53pm
Hampshire 1st inns 249-4 (75 overs) Brown 35 Dawson 0
Fletcha Middleton's innings comes to an end on 109 when he bottom edges a wide delivery off Luke Wells onto his stumps.
A good breakthrough for Lancashire with a new batsman in and the new ball due in five overs.
4.39pm
Hampshire 1st inns 230-3 (71 overs) Middleton 101 Brown 27
A nice moment for Fletcha Middleton who goes to his second first-class century and emulates the achievement of his father who scored a century here the last time Hampshire won at Emirates Old Trafford in 1992.
His hundred came from 173 balls with 13 fours.
4.30pm
Hampshire 1st inns 215-3 (68 overs) Middleton 86 Brown 27
Middleton and Brown have reached their 50 partnership off 86 balls as we get the final session of the day under way.
3.53pm, TEA Day 1
Hampshire 1st inns 203-3 (64 overs) Middleton 81 Brown 22
Fletcha Middleton goes onto his toes to square cut Aspinwall for four while Ben Brown guides the last ball of the session down to the vacant third man boundary for another four to end the session on a positive note for Hampshire.
But those two wickets just before the break will have been a real boost to Lancashire.
3.35pm
Hampshire 1st inns 179-3 (60 overs) Middleton 74 Brown 11
Lancashire are pushing hard for a fourth wicket as we approach tea. Luke Wells very nearly bowled Ben Brown on 0 with a googly, the batter could only grin at his let off as the ball whistled past off stump.
3.14pm
Hampshire 1st inns 165-3 (54 overs) Middleton 72 Brown 0
Another wicket as James Vince comes down the wicket and plays an ugly shot off Tom Hartley that sends the ball high but down the throat of Josh Bohannon at extra cover!
That is not a shot you associate with a class batter like Vince but Lancashire and Hartley won't complain.
3.10pm
Hampshire 1st inns 162-2 (53 overs) Middleton 70 Vince 4
The wicket Lancashire desperately needed has arrived courtesy of Luke Wells!
Nick Gubbins plays back and nicks an attempted cut behind to 'keeper Matty Hurst after making 75 in a partnership of 151.
2.55pm
Hampshire 1st inns 149-1 (50 overs) Middleton 69 Gubbins 67
Spin at both ends at present with Tom Hartley and Luke Wells operating in tandem.
Middleton and Gubbins continue to prosper however, the latter having hit the first six of the day off Hartley.
2.25pm
Hampshire 1st inns 115-1 (41 overs) Middleton 50 Gubbins 54
Both Hampshire batters reach fifty, Gubbins first from 122 balls (7x4) and then Middleton off 96 balls (5x4).
That means they have also posted a century partnership that has taken 25.3 overs and this is a great platform built by these two.
2.00pm
Hampshire 1st inns 91-1 (35 overs) Middleton 38 Gubbins 42
The first boundary since lunch arrives as Fletcha Middleton pulls Tom Aspinwall to the square leg fence.
1.00pm, LUNCH Day 1
Hampshire 1st inns 80-1 (30 overs) Middleton 27 Gubbins 42
Middleton and Gubbins have built a good partnership of 73 runs with the latter producing a flurry of excellent shots in the last thirty minutes.
The Red Rose bowlers have, in the main, stuck to their task and bowled straight to cause both batters moments of concern but only Aspinwall has managed to claim a wicket.
But having been put in, the visitors will likely be the happier camp at the break.
12.30pm
Hampshire 1st inns 49-1 (22 overs) Middleton 19 Gubbins 19
A nice six over spell by George Balderson has gone unrewarded so far, although he has found the odd edge that has bounced in front of the slips and had a couple of lbw shouts denied.
Tom Bailey has produced two accurate spells, conceeding just 11 runs from 9 overs with this Kookaburra ball.
12.00pm
Hampshire 1st inns 43-1 (16 overs) Middleton 17 Gubbins 15
A half hour has passed since the last update where not a great deal has happened. Hampshire pair Middleton and Gubbins are digging in to deny the Red Rose attack and content in the main to pick off ones and twos.
11.27am
Hampshire 1st inns 14-1 (7 overs) Middleton 2 Gubbins 5
Nick Gubbins gets away with a loose drive off Tom Bailey that he edges just wide of a diving Tom Hartley at third slip for four.
11.16am
SECOND XI UPDATE: It's all over at Denby as Lancashire wrap up a 58-run victory in the first 15 minutes of the final day.
It was Josh Boyden who struck again, this time clipping the top of Rory Haydon's off stump to seal the victory.
Jack Blatherwick finished with match figures of 11-146.
11.16am
Hampshire 1st inns 7-1 (2 overs) Middleton 1 Gubbins 0
And we have an early breakthrough at Emirates Old Trafford!
Tom Aspinwall nips one away that finds the edge of Toby Albert's defensive push and is taken by George Bell at first slip. Out for 6.
11.10am
SECOND XI UPDATE: Josh Boyden has made an early breakthrough at Denby where Derbyshire needed 66 runs to win with two wickets left at the start of the day.
Boyden has taken the wicket of Johal, caught at cover by Gennaro Reddy, for 16 so the home side are down to their last wicket still needing 59 runs.
11.07am
Hampshire 1st inns 4-0 (2 overs) Albert 3 Middleton 1
The two Toms are opening the bowling for Lancashire, Bailey starting with a maiden and Aspinwall finding an outside edge off Toby Albert that scuttles past fourth slip for a couple of runs.
