The slightly better news from Southport is that the rain has stopped and some of the covers have been removed.

The umpires and groundsman are out in the middle assessing conditions. There will be a further inspection at 3.45pm.

3.10pm, TEA DAY 4 - RAIN DELAY

Tea has now been taken.

Steady drizzle is falling at Trafalgar Road forcing the players off the all the covers on.

2.20pm
Notts 2nd inns 189-4 trail by 38 runs, Clarke 62* James 24*

The bad news is that spots of rain are starting to fall.

Joe Clarke now has 750 runs for the season and in doing so is Notts leading run scorer this season. He has now gone past fifty seven times in his last 14 innings and is doing a great job in holding off the Red Rose attack of Anderson and Bailey.

1.48pm, NEW BALL TAKEN

After two overs of post-lunch spin, Lancashire take the new ball and - of course - hand it to James Anderson.

1.00pm, LUNCH Day 4
Notts 2nd inns 164-4 trail by 63 runs, Clarke 54* James 8*
Nearly! Lyndon James inside edges off Luke Wells.

We've bowled 78 overs in this innings so the new ball will be available just after the break and you would think that will be a critical passage of play in this game if Lancashire are to win this game.

12.45pm
Notts 2nd inns 154-4 trail by 73 runs, Clarke 50* James 4*
Lyndon James finally gets off the mark after half an hour at the crease by straight driving Nathan Lyon for four.

Joe Clarke reaches his half century off 107 balls (5x fours, 1 six) and he is doing a great job for Notts.

Luke Wells has replaced Lyon as Lancs continue with spin with the new ball being six overs away.

Some promising early signs as Jimmy Anderson has Will Young taking his hand off the bat to play a delivery and then close to nicking the following one.

11.00am
Notts 2nd inns 84-2 trail by 143 runs, Clarke 11* Young 11*
