SECOND XI MATCH REPORT: No result in the opening T20 match against Durham
Our opening match in the Second Eleven T20 competition fell foul of the weather with only eight overs possible before rain ended play early at Chester-le-Street CC.
In that time Durham had made 66 for two with Ross Whitfield unbeaten on 21 and Haydon Mustard 19 not out.
Lancashire welcomed back Luke Wood following his time at the IPL with Mitchell Stanley playing his first competitive game of the season following injury.
And it was Wood who struck first after skipper Steven Croft, who has been playing for Cumbria this month, put Durham in to bat with the left arm quick having opposition captain Ben McKinney caught at mid-on for six in the third over.
Jon Bushnell pulled Stanley over backward square for six in the following over but the bowler hit back by bowling the Durham opener for 17 four balls later to have the hosts 27 for two.
Whitfield and Mustard had just picked up the pace by taking 15 runs from the eighth over when rain arrived at 3.35pm with the game declared a ‘no result’ an hour later.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow for their second game of the competition at the same venue.
