SECOND XI REPORT: Century partnership boosts Lancashire in Roses clash
A century partnership between Harry Singh and Arav Shetty helped Lancashire reach 213 for four in reply to the Yorkshire first innings total of 406 on another rain shortened day in this Second Eleven Championship match at Southport.
Resuming the day on 56 for one, the Lancashire batters made steady progress after play got under way at 2.20pm, although two further showers hampered the early stages of play on the third day.
Singh, who started the afternoon on 28, straight drove Chinmay Mullapudi twice to get his innings underway reaching his fifty from 117 balls soon after tea and he batted splendidly through the day to finish unbeaten on 84.
Charlie Barnard made 25 from 32 balls but pushed tentatively at left arm seamer Joe Davies to give a catch to Yash Vagadia at first slip while George Lavelle was trapped lbw by leg spinner Jafer Chohan to leave Lancashire on 105 for three just before the tea break.
But Singh found great support from Arav Shetty after the interval as the pair added exactly 100 in 100 minutes with Shetty hitting 6 fours and reaching his half century from 69 balls before edging Brad Sylvester to Noah Kelly at second slip for 56.
Jack Blatherwick saw the rest of the day out safely alongside Singh, finishing unbeaten on 8, with Lancashire trailing by 193 runs going into the final day.
