Thunder sign Australian duo Mack and Voll for the 2024 season
Thunder Cricket is delighted to announce Australian duo Katie Mack and Georgia Voll as the region’s overseas signings for the 2024 season.
Mack, who arrives at Emirates Old Trafford this week, will play for Thunder in the 50-over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy across two spells during April-May and August-September.
Voll has been signed up for the full Charlotte Edwards Cup T20 campaign during May and June and will also play for Thunder in the following four Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy matches in June and July.
Dynamic 30-year-old batter Mack plays for Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and is a talented opener – who also bats at three - for ACT Meteors in the Women’s National Cricket League 50-over competition.
She is the most prolific WBBL run scorer in Adelaide’s current squad with more than 1,700 runs and Mack enjoyed a fine WBBL in 2023 - as she scored 452 runs across 15 innings at an average of over 30 and helped the Strikers to lift the title, beating Brisbane Heat in the final by three runs.
20-year-old Voll is a batting all-rounder and regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in Australian cricket. Voll signed to Brisbane Heat in the WBBL when she was just 16 years old, and also represents Queensland Fire in the Women's National Cricket League.
In last season’s edition of the WBBL, Voll scored 206 runs taking her overall tally in the competition to 903 runs from 58 matches, in addition to 10 wickets taken with her right-arm off breaks.
Speaking about his new overseas additions, Thunder head coach, Chris Read, said: “I am really pleased to be welcoming both Katie and Georgia to Thunder for the 2024 season.
“Strengthening the depth of our batting department was a key priority for us when going into the market for overseas signings this summer and we are delighted to have been able to do so across both competitions.
“Katie will bring a huge amount of experience to our squad, has a proven track record in 50 over cricket and is also coming off the back of a really successful WBBL campaign for herself.
“Georgia is a hugely talented young cricketer, who has already shown her abilities in the WBBL, and we are excited to see how she goes in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and also in the four 50 over matches that will follow.”
Thunder begin the 2024 season against Northern Diamonds in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at the Seat Unique Riverside on Saturday 20 April when Mack will be in contention to make her debut.
