William Porterfield joins Lancashire’s coaching staff

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce the appointment of William Porterfield onto Dale Benkenstein’s coaching staff.

Porterfield joins the Red Rose from Gloucestershire where he had worked on Benkenstein’s staff at the Seat Unique in Bristol since 2022.

A former Ireland international and captain, Porterfield made more than 200 appearances for his country between 2006 and 2022, scoring over 5,000 runs in the process.

Porterfield played First-Class cricket in England for Gloucestershire and Warwickshire before retiring in 2022 to begin his coaching career with the former.

The 39-year-old will begin work with Lancashire immediately this week, following the departure of Carl Crowe which was announced earlier today by the Club.

Head Coach Dale Benkenstein said: “I’m really pleased that Will has been able to join me at Emirates Old Trafford ahead of the new season and look forward to continuing our working relationship.

“Will and I worked together for two years in Bristol and I think that he will add real skill and experience to our coaching staff here at Lancashire, both from his playing days and first steps into coaching.

“With Will and Craig White alongside me, I am really pleased to have my coaching team finalised as we head off on pre-season tour this week before the season gets underway in April.

“Finally, I would also like to thank Carl Crowe for all of his efforts during our brief time working together here at Lancashire and I wish him all the best with his next steps.”
