Lancashire sign Hampshire quick John Turner on loan

Lancashire Cricket have completed the loan signing of Hampshire and England fast bowler, John Turner.

24-year-old Turner joins the Club on an initial 14-day loan for the next two Rothesay County Championship matches.

Turner will go straight into the matchday squad to face Northamptonshire, starting on Friday, at Emirates Old Trafford and trained with Lancashire for the first time on Wednesday.

Regarded as one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in the country, Turner has played five times for Hampshire in First-Class cricket, picking up 14 wickets at an average of 19.85.

He has been selected in multiple England white-ball squads since his breakthrough campaign in 2023 and made four appearances (two IT20, two ODI) during their tour of the West Indies last winter.

Turner finished the 2024 season with 18 Hampshire appearances across all formats, taking 29 wickets: eight of those coming from just two matches in the One Day Cup, averaging 8.50.

Speaking about the signing, Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton said: “John is an exciting young bowler who is well regarded both domestically and by England at international level.

“With Jimmy recovering from injury and Saqib sticking to an agreed plan ahead of his return to red ball cricket, John’s loan signing and immediate availability provides us with another bowling option for the next couple of matches in the Rothesay County Championship.

“We are looking forward to seeing what he can bring to our side, and we hope that he can get some valuable red ball playing time and enjoy his spell with us here at Emirates Old Trafford.”
