Another incident packed Mason Crane over included Luke Wells hitting the leg spinner for six over square leg, dropped next ball by a diving Ned Leonard at mid-on (although it would have been catch of the season if he'd caught it), followed by a wide leg side delivery that went for four byes.

Kiran Carlson has reached his century off 120 balls with 3x6, 11x4, and his partnership with Sam Northeast stands at 215.

The big surprise today, following the clatter of wickets across the first two days, is the lack of wickets this morning, and the way the pitch has played suggests it has flattened out quite a bit.

A couple of chances don't stick; a hard one at short leg to Keaton Jennings off Chris Green and a less difficult one at short extra cover by Josh Bohannon off Tom Hartley.

It means Northeast and Carlson motor on with their partnerships worth 176, and after the difficulties batters on both sides experienced in their first innings, today the wicket seems to be much more placid.
