Manchester Super Giants launch marks new era for The Hundred in Manchester

Manchester’s team in The Hundred is to be re-named as Manchester Super Giants, with the team continuing to play its home fixtures at Emirates Old Trafford. The re-brand marks a significant milestone for the franchise as it enters an exciting new era under the co-ownership of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG Group) and Lancashire Cricket.

At the same time, Manchester Super Giants have confirmed the appointment of a world-leading, experienced and highly respected cricket management structure across both its men’s and women’s teams.

Tom Moody has been appointed Global Director of Cricket, with overall responsibility for cricket strategy and performance across all RPSG-owned teams: Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, Durban’s Super Giants in SA20 and now Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred. Moody brings more than three decades of experience in elite cricket environments, having served as a Head Coach, Director and Mentor across international teams and major franchise competitions. A former Australian international all-rounder, he played a key role in Australia’s 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup triumph and has since been instrumental in shaping successful franchise teams across the globe. Moody and RPSG Sports Chief Executive, Vinay Chopra, will work with Lancashire’s Director of Cricket Performance, Mark Chilton, to oversee the strategy for Manchester’s newest sports team.

Justin Langer has been named as the new Men’s Head Coach, succeeding Simon Katich. One of Australia’s most accomplished opening batters, Langer scored more than 7,600 Test runs and captained his country across formats. As Head Coach of Australia, he led the men’s team to victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021 and the Ashes in 2021–22. Langer has previously held Head Coach roles with London Spirit in The Hundred, Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash and is the current Head Coach of Lucknow Super Giants.

Matthew Mott has been appointed as the new Women’s Head Coach, succeeding Michael Klinger, and brings with him an outstanding record in women’s cricket. During his tenure as Head Coach of Australia Women, Mott oversaw an era of unprecedented success, including ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup victories, multiple ICC Women’s T20 World Cup titles and extended periods of dominance across all formats. He was also England’s white-ball Head Coach from 2022 to 2024, a period that included victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Dr Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of the RPSG Group & Owner of the Manchester Super Giants, commented: “This is an exciting and important phase for us as we formally integrate the Manchester cricket franchise into the wider Super Giants family. It marks the beginning of a new chapter, grounded in ambition and long-term vision for the game in the UK.

“We are equally pleased to confirm our initial group of pre-signings. On the men’s side, we have secured two world-class batters and proven match-winners in Jos Buttler and Heinrich Klaasen, alongside two outstanding spin options, Noor Ahmad, widely regarded as one of the most exciting young spinners in world cricket, and Liam Dawson, a highly accomplished and proven English spin bowler.

“For the women’s team, we have brought together an exceptional blend of experience and excellence, featuring some of the most accomplished players in the global game: Meg Lanning, Smriti Mandhana, and Sophie Ecclestone. Together, they reflect the standards and ambition we want the Manchester Super Giants to represent.”

Shashwat Goenka, Vice Chairman of the RPSG Group & Owner of the Manchester Super Giants said: “Manchester is a city with an extraordinary sporting legacy, recognised globally for its passion, pride, and love for the game. Bringing the Super Giants brand to Manchester is therefore a moment of real significance for us, and we feel both excited and privileged to associate with a city that truly understands sporting excellence.

“Today, as the Manchester Super Giants spread their wings, we begin a new chapter rooted in team spirit, passion, and a winning mindset. Super Giants is more than just a cricket team - it is an emotion that brings communities together and reflects the spirit of the city it represents.”

James Sheridan, Deputy Chair of Manchester Super Giants, commented: “Manchester is one of the world’s great sporting cities, and our vision is to create a team that not only competes for titles but also delivers an amazing entertainment and sporting event at each of its fixtures as we combine global expertise with local sporting passion.

“Our ambition is to bring the world’s best cricketers and coaches together to create men’s and women’s teams that inspires sports fans across the North West to come and support them and share in our mission to build winning teams. With outstanding coaches, global stars and the backing of RPSG Group and Lancashire Cricket, we are determined to take cricket to a completely different level for our city and Super Giants fans across the world.”

The 2026 fixture list for The Hundred will be confirmed on Tuesday 27 January, with Season Tickets launching on the same date. The remaining team members will be assembled via the competition’s first player auction that will take place in March 2026.
