Remembering Bob Simpson
Lancashire Cricket was sad to hear the recent passing of former coach, Bob Simpson.
Born in Sydney on 3 February 1936, Simpson rose to prominence with an immaculate slip fielding record, legendary batting - and later, a coaching revolution that shaped modern cricket. His Test career for Australia (1957–1978) featured 62 matches, 4,869 runs at an average of 46.81, 10 centuries including a triple century, and 71 wickets as a part-time leg-spinner.
In 1964, Simpson scored a marathon unbeaten 311 at Old Trafford to ensure Australia's retention of the Ashes.
Simpson coached Lancashire for two years from 2000, whilst he also coached Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
