Remembering Steven Edge
Lancashire Cricket and Lancashire Cricket Foundation are sad to hear of the passing of Vice President, Steven Edge last week.
Steven graduated at Exeter University and was a lawyer by trade having worked at the law firm Slaughter and May. He specialised in corporate tax and become a partner at the firm in 1982.
Steven – a proud Lancashire and Bolton Wanderers fan - was also a long-standing supporter and champion of the Lancashire Cricket Foundation. His generous spirit and unwavering commitment to give back left a lasting mark on communities across the North West. Through his support, underprivileged children have had access to professional coaching and the chance to fall in love with the game we all cherish.
His efforts went far beyond financial support. Steven helped to bring together his network of friends and colleagues for a memorable dinner in the Long Room at Lord’s with the proceeds directly benefiting junior cricket in Lancashire – a true testament to his love for both the game and our community.
Steven had a deep-rooted affinity with the Club and in the days before apprentice contracts helped a number of our younger players establish themselves on their route to become professional cricketers by providing the Club with additional financial resource which helped bridge the gap between the amateur and professional ranks. Josh Bohannon and Kesh Fonseka are shining current examples of his kindness and generosity.
He also arranged and funded a dinner at Mosimann's restaurant in London with twenty high-net worth individuals – attended by the Club’s late Chairman David Hodgkiss and former players including David Lloyd, Paul Allott and Warren Hegg – which helped to raise substantial sums for the Foundation to progress the development of individuals and groups of cricketers throughout Lancashire.
He was made a Vice-President of Lancashire Cricket in recognition of his support of youth cricket in 2011.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
