SECOND XI REPORT: Lancashire press home advantage as Gloucestershire follow-on
Tom Walker took a second four-wicket haul in this match as Lancashire made Gloucestershire follow-on at Blackpool on another rain hit day with only 60 overs possible. By the close the visitors led by one run with three second innings wickets remaining.
Starting the third day on 104-9 in their first innings, Gloucestershire were quickly 115 all out after Charlie Parkinson had Alfie Johnson caught at second slip to finish with the excellent figures of 5-37, and Jonny Bushnell left unbeaten on 37.
Following-on and 213 runs in arrears, Gloucestershire lost Max Dunne for 4, bowled by Walker, before Jos Eckland and Tommy Boorman settled into a good partnership of 82.
The pair reached lunch on 98-1 with Eckland reaching a 60-ball half century just before the break but edging behind off Walker for 53 from the fifth ball of the afternoon.
That was the first of five wickets to fall for 53 runs inside 15 overs with Boorman pulling Ollie Sutton high to Walker at fine leg for 41 before Walker took his seventh and eighth wickets in the match by having Kamran Dhariwal caught by Sutton at gully for 11 and Ahmed Syed lbw for 7.
When Jamie Dunk was bowled for 0 offering no shot to Luke Hands, Gloucestershire had slumped to 151-6 still 62 runs away from making Lancashire bat again.
The visitors skipper Daaryoush Ahmed and Bushnell rallied with a seventh wicket partnership that took Gloucestershire one run ahead by tea with Ahmed reaching his half century from 65 balls.
Just one over was possible after the interval before rain ended the day early, but Bushnell fell to the last ball bowled when he edged a seaming delivery from Jaden Rose to wicketkeeper George Bell for 21 with Gloucestershire 214-7.
