SECOND XI REPORT: Notts in the runs at Sale

Nottinghamshire rattled up 505-9 on the opening day of this two-day friendly with Lancashire led by an unbeaten century from captain Matt Montgomery while Red Rose skipper Charlie Barnard took three wickets.

Montgomery and Dane Schadendorf posted the biggest partnership with 143 runs for the fourth wicket after early wickets for Josh Boyden, Jack Blatherwick and Hassan Mughal had Nottinghamshire on 103-3 in the 20th over.

In good batting conditions on another scorchingly hot day, Montgomery hit 15 fours before retiring not out on 100 while Schadendorf became the first of Barnard’s three wickets after hitting 2 sixes and 9 fours in his 73 off 94 balls.

Barnard bowled Travis Holland for 27 and Miller Childs had Nick Keast caught behind off a reverse pull for 40 with the visitors 331-6 at tea.

Joe Chapple took two wickets in one over after the restart when Akand Singh Gangotra clipped a catch to George Harris at midwicket for 22 and then bowled Tom Giles for 2.

Rob Lord gave wicketkeeper Jack Carney his fourth catch of the day edging behind off Barnard for 47 with Nottinghamshire 391-9.

With nine overs left in the day both Seecharan and King were allowed a second bat in the innings and they hit out in spectacular style, adding 114 runs with Seecharan hitting 4 sixes in making 53 and King blasting 7 sixes in his 64 to take Nottinghamshire past 500 in the final over.
