Player Profile

Sefton-born speedster Ollie Sutton signed his maiden professional contract with Lancashire ahead of the 2025 season, and he has now played first-team cricket in both four-day and one-day cricket.

Left-arm seamer Sutton played one game for Lancashire in 2024, a Metro Bank One-Day Cup clash with Kent at Blackpool, and it was eventful to say the least.

The now 26-year-old only bowled four balls, including a wide first up. He took a wicket with his first legitimate ball before pulling up with a side injury which ruled him out for the rest of the summer.

However, the Red Rose management had seen enough of him to know that he was well worth investing in.

And, having worked his way back to fitness, he made his red-ball debut in the 2025 season-opening Rothesay County Championship match against Middlesex at Lord’s, taking three wickets in the draw.

He went on to play three times in last summer’s One-Day Cup.

Sutton, a product of the Formby club, played age-group cricket for Lancashire, though he had to be patient for his chance.

He has played second-team cricket for Derbyshire, Durham, Worcestershire and Warwickshire in recent seasons, as well as Lancashire, as he looked for a breakthrough into the pro game.

Thankfully, that patience has been rewarded.

He claimed an eye-catching 7-73 for Formby in a Liverpool Competition game against Leigh in 2023.

Upon signing his maiden professional contract in late October 2024, Sutton described it as a “proud day from and my family”.

His resilience and determination to succeed has certainly been highlighted by his aforementioned side-injury setback, and Lancashire’s director of cricket performance Mark Chilton pointed to that attitude as well as his skills with the ball.

Former county captain Chilton added: “We are excited by the left-arm pace option he can add to our attack.”
