Player Profile

Scottish spin bowling all-rounder Darcey Carter signed for Lancashire on a permanent basis ahead of 2025, and she finished her first full summer at Emirates Old Trafford having played her part in two trophy triumphs.

Carter played once in the Vitality T20 County Cup, though didn’t feature at Finals Day. However, she was involved in the semi-final and final of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Things then got even better for the 20-year-old over the winter which followed. At the start of 2026, she helped Scotland come through a T20 World Cup qualifying event in Nepal to take their place at the main event in England during the summer.

She will be representing her country at Emirates Old Trafford this coming June.

That qualifying campaign showed Carter’s versatility. She arrived at Lancashire in late 2024, initially to conclude the regional era with a loan spell from South East Stars, as a more recognised off-spin bowler.

However, in Nepal, she didn’t bowl at all in seven matches and hit a crucial 52 in their victory over the USA, which sealed qualification. She opened the batting.

Carter was born in Sidcup and came through the Kent system. Her father Darrell played Minor Counties cricket for Suffolk and her younger brother Finlay is a current Scotland Under 19s player.

Since making her senior debut for Scotland in July 2023, Darcey has gone on to play 48 times for her country - 10 times in ODIs and on 38 occasions in T20Is. She has taken 27 wickets with a best of 3-11 and has just topped 1,000 runs with a best of 86.

She qualifies through her mother’s heritage and played all four matches for them at the T20 World Cup in the UAE in late 2024, including against England and champions South Africa in the group stage. Ailsa Lister and Liv Bell were in the same team.

Carter made her senior county debut for Kent in 2022 and played senior regional cricket for the South East Stars the following summer.

A tall and accurate off-spinner - she also has plenty of power with the bat - her first competitive wicket of the 2026 summer will be her 50th in senior cricket across both the 50-over and T20 formats.

Last summer, she played a couple of men’s league matches for Accrington in the second tier of the Lancashire League. She also played one T20 for them.

Carter played 17 times for Lancashire’s women in 2025, including friendlies, and returned bests of 2-28 and 40.

This year promises to be a particularly big one for Carter, given she is fighting for success both domestically and internationally.

Scotland will play twice at Emirates Old Trafford in the group stage; against Ireland and then Sri Lanka. They will no doubt be extremely proud moments for talented youngster Carter.

But she will also be absolutely desperate to help the Red Rose county build on their sensational double win of last summer.
