Player Profile

An area which Lancashire’s management have targeted for improvement in recent seasons has been their batting, and the signing of Eve Jones was seen as a major step towards that.

Signed on loan in late 2024, she put pen to paper on a long-term deal at Emirates Old Trafford, where she had previously played for the Red Rose in the non-professional era.

And, during the opening stages of 2025, the left-handed opener proved exactly why the county were so keen to get her back following a five-season spell with regional side Central Sparks from the Midlands.

In the first 11 matches of the season, in both the Metro Bank One-Day Cup the Vitality T20 County Cup, Jones posted standout and notable scores of 75, 97, 107, 57, 52, 33 and 60.

The now 33-year-old formed an irresistible opening partnership with her close mate Emma Lamb, the pair going way back.

She helped set Lancashire on the right path to silverware in the County and One-Day Cups, though unfortunately injury ruled her out of both finals.

Jones actually didn’t play for the Red Rose beyond the end of July having suffered a nasty shoulder injury whilst playing for Manchester Originals in The Hundred.

In all cricket for the county last summer, she totalled 843 runs from 27 matches, including seven fifties and one hundred - the aforementioned 107 in a 50-over defeat to Hampshire at Southport in early May.

Jones oozes class and experience.

The Shrewsbury-born star has played 311 senior matches in List A and T20 cricket. In the early stages of 2026, she will reach 8,000 runs. She’s only 68 runs away from that milestone.

She has scored eight List A centuries, with a best of 136 not out.

Guess who that came against? Yes, Lancashire - under the guise of Thunder - for Sparks in the 2024 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at Emirates Old Trafford.

“That innings from Eve was one of the best any of us have seen in the women’s game. It was timed to perfection,” said Lancashire’s director of women’s cricket David Thorley after sealing her signature.

Jones is undoubtedly one of the best domestic batters never to have played for England, though she has come close having represented England A at home and abroad in 2022 and 2023.

She has played in The Hundred for both Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals and has played winter overseas cricket in Australia (Melbourne Renegades) and New Zealand (Canterbury).

Jones was part of the Lancashire side which won the county double back in 2017; the County Championship and the T20 Cup. She also played for Lancashire Thunder in the Kia Super League competition, which ran between 2016 and 2019.

She then went on to captain the county in 2018 and 2019, something she later did with the Edgbaston-based Sparks as well.

In 2021, Jones won the PCA’s women’s player-of-the-year award following an exceptional summer across all formats for both the Sparks in regional cricket and for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred. She topped 800 runs in all.

Yes, there’s more cricket played now, but it gives you an idea of just how well Jones played last summer that she sailed beyond the 800-run mark once again - in only half a season.
