Lancashire and Thunder’s 2022 fixture lists confirmed

The 2022 domestic schedule has been announced

  • Lancashire to open LV= County Championship Division One campaign against Kent at Canterbury on Thursday 14 April
  • Vitality Blast kicks off with Roses T20 at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 27 May
  • Thunder begin Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign on Saturday 14 May and Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy on Sunday 3 July

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce its domestic fixture list for the 2022 season as the Club competes on three fronts in the LV= Insurance County Championship Division One, the Vitality Blast and the Royal London Cup.

The Red Rose will begin the new season with a three-day fixture away to Loughborough MCCU on Saturday 2 April. Two weeks later, Glen Chapple’s side will kick off the County Championship, back in Division One, with an away fixture against Kent at Canterbury on Thursday 14 April.

The regional women’s domestic season gets underway on Saturday 14 May, when Thunder travel to Southern Vipers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup (T20).

Lancashire open the season with six rounds of County Championship cricket before the Vitality Blast starts with a crunch Roses T20 against Yorkshire Vikings on Friday 27 May.

Lancashire Lightning’s first five T20 home fixtures will all be played at Emirates Old Trafford before hosting Notts Outlaws and Durham at Blackpool Cricket Club on Sunday 19 and Thursday 23 June.

Emirates Old Trafford will host two T20 doubleheaders. On Wednesday 1 June, Glen Chapple’s side play Derbyshire Falcons before Thunder face Southern Vipers in the evening and on Friday 3 June, Thunder kicks off the action against Loughborough Lightning prior to Lancashire’s floodlit fixture against Northants Steelbacks.

The Vitality Blast North Group concludes with a home match against Birmingham Bears at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday 3 July. Quarter-Finals will be held from 6-9 July, before an earlier than usual Finals Day at Edgbaston on Saturday 16 July.

In between the knockout stages of the Vitality Blast, Lancashire will also host Somerset in the County Championship as the Club returns to Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club for the first time since 2018 on Monday 11 July. The ground will host a festival of cricket as Trafalgar Road will also be the venue for Thunder’s home fixture against South East Stars on Saturday 16 July.

Thunder begins their Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy (50-over) campaign at home to local rivals Northern Diamonds on Sunday 3 July at Sale Cricket Club; before on Saturday 23 July, playing a standalone match at Emirates Old Trafford against Central Sparks.

Lancashire’s Royal London Cup group includes Yorkshire and defending champions Glamorgan and starts Thursday 2 August against Essex at Sedbergh School before facing Roses rivals Yorkshire in York two days later.

The eight-match group stage finishes with an away trip to Kent on Thursday 23 August, with Quarter-Finals played Friday 26 August, Semi-Finals Tuesday 30 August before the Final at Trent Bridge on Saturday 17 September.

The County Championship run-in sees Lancashire face Yorkshire at home and Essex away before concluding the season against Surrey at Emirates Old Trafford, starting on Monday 26 September.

Director of Cricket Performance, Mark Chilton, said: “The announcement of the new fixture list always sharpens the focus and it’s an exciting time for everyone to see who we’re playing and when.

“I’d like to thank the ECB for their co-operation in what is clearly a very complex and challenging process and I think Members and supporters will be pleased to see plenty of weekend cricket again this summer, as well as five County Championship cricket fixtures which are to be played throughout June and July.

“I must also thank our outgrounds that we will use in 2022 – Blackpool who will hold two T20 matches, Southport who will host a festival of cricket including the men’s four-day match against Somerset as well as Thunder’s home match against South East Stars.

“Sedbergh School will once again welcome the National Counties fixture against Cumbria CCC before hosting our first Royal London Cup game against Essex.

“We haven’t played at Blackpool and Southport for a few years, but the Club have been really impressed throughout the conversations we have had with them over the last couple of months. Whilst there is not a fixture scheduled at Liverpool CC in 2022, we remain committed to working together in the future.”

David Thorley, Regional Director of Women’s Cricket, also commented: “We are really pleased to have confirmation of the 2022 schedule, and we can look forward to another jampacked summer for the women’s game.

“The momentum built by the women’s game last summer was incredible and the players have been working hard throughout the winter to ensure they are ready to go once again in 2022.

“To be able to play more fixtures at Emirates Old Trafford, as part of two T20 doubleheaders as well as two further standalone games will be an amazing opportunity for our players, and they are dates I know they’re already looking forward to.”
