Saqib Mahmood joins Lancashire delegation in Dubai

Lancashire and England fast bowler Saqib Mahmood has joined a travelling delegation to Dubai this week to activate at the Emirates Dubai Sevens.

Mahmood – who has been training in the UAE with England as he recovers from a stress fracture of his back – has accompanied members of the Club’s Partnerships Team for the week-long tour.

The 25-year-old has been stepping up his recovery in recent weeks and spoke to LancsTV from the Hilton Conrad in Dubai to provide an update on his fitness.

Alongside taking part in meet and great sessions in an Emirates hospitality area at the Sevens Stadium, Mahmood will also create cross-sport content alongside players from the competing Rugby Sevens teams.

The trip follows the announcement of the seven-year extension of Lancashire Cricket and Emirates’ headline partnership earlier this year, which will now run until 2029, making it the longest and biggest sponsorship in English domestic cricket.

The organisations have worked together on a number of activations over the years including the well-known Emirates Catch a Six at the Roses Vitality Blast fixture, Emirates Lockdown Heroes in 2021 which paid tribute to those made a tangible difference to the national and local fight during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Club also supported Emirates during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last November and have visited the Dubai 2020 Expo twice over the past six months.

Liz Cooper, Partnerships Director at Lancashire Cricket, said: “I am delighted that Saqib will be joining us out in Dubai over the next week as Lancashire Cricket activates at the Emirates Dubai Sevens.

“We see the chance to activate at the Sevens Stadium as an opportunity to continue the Club’s commercial growth and development.

“I would also like to thank Emirates for all their help and support ahead of our trip, and we look forward to seeing them as part of our visit following the exciting renewal announcement earlier this year."
