Tom Bailey signs new Lancashire Cricket contract

Tom Bailey signs new Lancashire Cricket contract

Lancashire Cricket’s leading wicket-taker in last season’s LV= Insurance County Championship, Tom Bailey, has signed a new contract with the Club until at least the end of 2023.

Bailey claimed 50 wickets – at an average of just 16 - in the Championship last term including career best figures of 7 for 37 against Hampshire and was named as the Club’s Player of the Year.

The Preston-born seamer – who is a graduate of Lancashire’s Academy – has developed into one of the most consistent performers with the red ball, in county cricket.

In the 2018 Specsavers County Championship season, Bailey finished as the division’s top wicket-taker with 64 scalps in 14 matches.

A season later, he claimed a further 37 First-Class wickets from just nine matches due to a mid-season injury.

In the shortened 2020 season, Bailey once again led the Club’s red ball wicket taking charts with 13 from four matches played.

30-year-old Bailey has a total of 257 First-Class wickets from 73 matches, taken at an average of just 23. In 2021, he also captained a young Lancashire side throughout their Royal London Cup campaign.

Speaking after extending his stay at Emirates Old Trafford, Tom Bailey said: “I am delighted to sign on for at least another two seasons with my home county.

“I love representing the Red Rose and I am really excited about what the future can hold for us as a team, as we push for the silverware which we all crave.

“We have an outstanding bowling unit at the Club and, as one of the more senior players in the dressing room now, I will be looking to continue to set an example and lead from the front with the new ball.”
